Shoes Beat Hearts, Hatchets Down Indians In Friday Girls Basketball

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School played host to Effingham in girls basketball action in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3 Friday evening.

The Wooden Shoes came out with a 54-36 victory.

EHS held an 11-9 opening quarter lead as Bella Austin connected for four points while Tessa Raddatz added three.

Malea Helmink led T-town with five points on a basket and three free throws.

T-town then went on a 13-6 second period run as Helmink hit for five points and Chloe Probst added four points on a three-pointer and a free throw. The Shoes held a 22-17 halftime lead.

T-town then came back with a 21-6 third quarter run as C. Probst went on a scoring binge, hitting two three-pointers and three regular baskets for 12 of her team's points. The Shoes held a 43-23 lead going into the final period.

EHS had a 13-11 final quarter but coudln't get over the second and third quarter runs by T-town.

The Shoes were led by C. Probst with seven field goals, three of those from beyond the arc, and two of three at the line for 19. Helmink tallied 13 and Kelsey Niemerg 10.

Effingham did not have a player in double figures. Tessa Raddatz, Bria Beals and Austin led with eight points each.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a 43-29 victory over Altamont in Friday evening action.

The Hatchets ran out to a 14-2 opening quarter lead behind a regular basket and a three-pointer from Kendra Hayes and a basket and three free throws from Katelyn VonBehrens for five points each.

In the second quarter Altamont came back with a run as Avery Aldrich hit three baskets and a free throw for seven points and Regan Kuenstler connected on a three-pointer. But the Indians trailed Windsor/Stew-Stras 26-12 at halftime.

The Hatchets and Indians played to a 17-17 second half as Windsor/Stew-Stras won.

Ellie Wittenberg led the way for the winners with 11 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and seven points coming in the final quarter. K. Hayes and VonBehrns added nine each.

Altamont was led by Aldrich with six field goals and two of three at the ilne for 14 points.

In junior varsity action, Windsor/Stew-Stras won 39-33.  Hayes led the way with 16 points.

Altamont was led by Sophia Long with nine.
