Effingham Sacred Heart and Sigel St. Michael advanced in the Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Boys Basketball Regional Tuesday.

St. Michael was a winner in the first game of the evening over Findlay Okaw Valley, 32-21.

In the second contest, Sacred Heart defeated Mattoon St. John's, 46-25.

Sacred Heart, seeded second, and St. Michael, seeded fourth, will meet at 6 p.m. today for the regional championship.

The winner will head to the Pana Sacred Heart Sectional Monday, February 3 at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of the Mulberry Grove Regional, either Altamont Lutheran or East St. Louis Younge. Those two teams play tonight.

 

Class 7-2A Hutsonville Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg will be playing for the championship at the Hutsonville Regional after claiming a win Tuesday evening.

Stew-Stras easily handled Hutsonville, 40-13.

Casey-Westfield downed Paris Crestwood, 34-23 in the second contest.

Top-seeded Stew-Stras will now meet second seeded Casey-Westfield Thursday at 6 p.m. for the regional championshp.

The winner heads to the St. Elmo Sectional Monday, Feb. 3 in a 6:30 p.m. contest against the winner of the Effingham St. Anthony Regional, either St. Anthony or St. Elmo/Brownstown.

 

Class 7-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

St. Anthony handed South Central a 31-16 loss in the opening game Tuesday evening.

The Bullpups ran out to a 14-3 opening quarter lead. Both teams scored only three points in the second quarter. St. Anthony then had an 8-5 third quarter to lead 25-11 going into the final period.

P. Phillips led St. Anthony with 17 points on eight field goals and one of two at the line.

South Central was led by L. Doehring with four on a three-pointer and a free throw.

In the second contest, St. Elmo/Brownstown edged Assumption Central A&M, 40-35.

St. Anthony and St. Elmo/Brownstown now meet at 5:30 p.m. today for the regional championship.

The winner advances to the St. Elmo Sectional and will take on the winner of the Hutsonville Regional, either Stew-Stras or Casey-Westfield at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3.

Class 7-1A Mulberry Grove Regional

The Mulberry Grove Regional continues tonight with Altamont Lutheran against East St. Louis Younge.

The two teams clash for the championship at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the Pana Sacred Heart Sectional Monday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of the Sigel St. Michael Regional, either Sigel St. Michael or Effingham Sacred Heart. Those two teams meet tonight at 6.

 

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

The championship of this regional will take place Thursday.

Teutopolis will face Robinson Nuttall at 6 p.m. for the title. The winner advances to the Teutopolis Sectional Monday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of the Paris Mayo Regional either Paris Mayo or Salt Fork. Those two teams also play Thursday for the regional title.

 

At Louisville

In eighth-grade regular season action Tuesday, Effingham was a 61-18 winner over North Clay (Louisville).

Effingham ran out to a 19-4 opening quarter lead and didn't look back.

The Mustangs' Joel Flack hit three regular baskets and a three-pointer for 11. He continued on with seven in the second quarter as the Mustangs led 38-6.

Flack finished with 18 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and three free throws. Coen Westjohn added nine and Dagg Thompson and Jenner Keyes eight each.

North Clay was led by C. Lewis and K. Durbin with five each.
