Cumberland To Play for LPC Tourney Title, EHS, T-town Fall In Regular Season Play, LIC Tourney Scores

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Cumberland will now meet Okaw Valley for the championship of the Lincoln Prairie Conference Boys Basketball Tournament after both teams won in Tuesday evening action.

Cumberland had an easy time with a 60-23 victory over Unity Christian.

The Pirates leaped out to a 17-1 opening quarter lead as Chase Stewart hit three from beyond the arc for nine points and four other players scored.

The lead went to 33-6 at halftime. Isaac Venatta connected for six points while Kelby Bierman finished wth five in the second quarter.

Two players ended in double figures while eight scored in the contest. Stewart led the way with four field goals, three of those three-pointers, for 11. Venatta added 10.

In the other winner bracket contest, Okaw Valley won over Tri-County, 71-50.

Cumberland and Okaw Valley meet for the championship at 8 p.m. Friday. Unity Christian and Tri-County will square off for third place at 6:30 Friday.

In other Tuesday games in consolation bracket action, Argenta-Oreana edged Blue Ridge, 53-48 and Heritage won over Villa Grove, 58-43. Cerro Gordo/Bement defeated Sullivan 48-42 and Arcola downed Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 63-49. 

Argenta-Oreana and Heritage will meet for the consolation championship Friday at 5 p.m. Cerro Gordo/Bement and Arcola will square off Friday at 5 p.m for fifth place.

At Effingham

Chatham Glenwood traveled to Effingham for a non-conference boys basketball contest and left with a 47-35 victory over the Hearts Tuesday evening.

Effingham edged ahead in the opening quarter, 14-12 behind the scoring of Jude Traub who connected on a regular basket and two three-pointers for eight.

But Glenwood came back with an 8-5 second period to lead 20-19 at halfitme.

The Titan moved into a 36-30 lead in the third quarter as Helm went on a run, hitting for eight points.

Glenwood finished out with an 11-5 final quarter.

EHS was led by Jude Traub with eight points, all coming in the opening quarter on three field goals, two from three-point range. Jake Niebrugge and KJ Kellams added seven each.

At Teutopolis

Mount Zion edged Teutopolis, 45-40 in Tuesday evening competition.

The Braves moved into a 12-9 opening quarter lead and led 25-18 at halftime.

T-town came back with a 16-8 third quarter run to pull ahead 34-33.

But Mount Zion finished with a 12-6 final quarter for the victory.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Alex Kremer with nine points on three field goals and three of four at the line. Landyn Thoele chipped in with eight and Gavin Addis finished with seven.

Teutopolis was a winner in junior varsity play, 58-31. Kendall Mette led the way for the Shoes with 13 and Landyn Thoele added 11.

At Lawrenceville

Two games were contested in the Little Illini Conference Tournament Tuesday evening.

Richland County, Olney won over Paris, 49-28 and Lawrenceville defeated Casey-Westfield 57-32 in winner bracket play.

Richland County and Lawrenceville will now meet for the championship Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Paris and Casey-Westfield will square off for third place at 6 p.m. Friday.

Tonight's games feature Robinson against Mount Carmel at 6 for seventh place and Newton taking on Marshall at 7:30 for fifth place.
