St. Anthony, North Clay Win At NTC Boys Tourney

The game was close in the opening quarter as the Bulldogs had a 14-10 edge. Brock Fearday kick-started the Bulldogs offense, hitting three baskets, two of those three-pointers, and was two of two at the line for 10 of those 14 points. Ryan Schmidt added the other two baskets.
Neoga kept close on five points from Luke Keller with a regular basket and a three-pointer, while Landon Titus hit a three and Gavin Ray put in two free throws.
But St. Anthony kicked into high gear with a 15-7 second period run to lead 29-17 at halftime. B. Fearday scored six while Schmidt added four and Maddox Wiedman hit a three-pointer.
Neoga came back in the third period as Titus went on a run with 11 points but the Indians still trailed 43-30 going into the final quarter where St. Anthony held an 11-9 edge.
Two players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs. Schmidt finished with nine of 16 field goals, two of three from the free throw line for 21. B. Fearday ended with 16 and pulled down four rebounds and had three assists. Keenan Griffith had four rebounds. Schmidt led in assists with four.
The Bulldogs finished with 35 percent from the field and 77 percent at the line.
Neoga was led by Titus with four field goals and five of five at the line for 16 points. Luke Keller chipped in with 14 points and led the team in rebounding with six. Carter Young led in assists with three.
The Indians hit 35 percent from the field and were 77 percent at the line.
In the second game Tuesday evening, North Clay downed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 67-54.
North Clay (Louisville) trailed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg after the opening quarter but came back to lead 39-33 at halftime.
The Cardinals' Mason Byers was unstoppable in that opening quarter, hitting five baskets, one a three-pointer and was five of seven at the line for 16 points.
But Windsor/Stew-Stras had the edge as five players scored led by Aiden Sayers with six points and Rylan Rincker and Brody Bible with five points each.
North Clay came back with a 19-12 second period to lead 39-33 at halftime.
Five players scored for the Cardinals. Carder Walden led the way with two three-pointers for six while Byers added five more points and Cody Zimdars hit a three-pointer and a free throw for four.
Blayzz Verdeyen kept the Hatchets within striking distance on two three-pointers.
The two teams played to a 13-13 fourth quarter. Zimdars hit seven of those points for North Clay while Jackson Gurgel connected on seven of the Hatchets' 13 points. Byers led in rebounds with six. Zimdars and Gavin Hosselton had two assists each.
The Cardinals then finished strong with a 15-8 run, hitting eight of 10 from the free throw line.
Byers finished with 27 points on nine of 13 from the field and seven of nine at the line. Zimdars added 20 points.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by three players in double digits. Broby Bible hit six field goals for 13 points while Gurgel added 12 and Sayers 11.
Bible led the way in rebounds with nine while Rylan Rincker had eight and Gurgel seven. Gurgel led in assists with five.
St. Anthony (19-2) and North Clay will meet at 8 Thursday while Neoga (4-17) dropped into the consolation bracket to take on Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 6:30.
Tonight's final first round games feature Dieterich against St. Elmo/Brownstown at 6:15 and Altamont facing South Central at 8.
