Newton Advances To Fifth Place Contest At LIC Boys Tourney

The Eagles edged out to a 10-9 opening quarter lead. Mount Carmel came back with a 5-4 second quarter to pull within 14-13 at halftime.
Newton then took charge in the second half with a 13-9 third period and a 20-14 final quarter.
Two players hit double figures for the Eagles. Hayden Mulvey connected on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and was a perfect eight of eight at the line for 19 points. Kody Bergbower added 12 points on five field goals and two of five at the line.
The Eagles put in 14 of 19 free throws in the contest.
Quincy Fulton led the team in rebounds with seven as the Eagles had a slight 25-24 edge in that department.
In the other contest Monday, Marshall was a 62-40 winner over Robinson.
Newton and Marshall will now square off for fifth place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Robinson and Mount Carmel meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday for seventh place.
Tonight's contests find Richland County against Paris at 6 and Lawrenceville taking on Casey-Westfield at 7:30. The winners will head to the championship contest Friday at 7:30 p.m. while the losers will play for third place at 6.
