Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Regionals -- Jan. 25 Results

Seventh-grade boys basketball regionals got underway Saturday around the area. Following are results from those regionals.

 

 

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Effingham Sacred Heart was among the winners at the St. Michael Regional. The Shamrocks, seeded second, trounced Oblong, 45-15.

In the opener, Windsor fell to top-seeded  Findlay Okaw Valley, 45-7.

St. Michael won over Neoga, 35-28. The Sharpshooters edged out to an 8-6 opening quarter lead and led 17-14 at halftime. St. Michael had an 18-14 second half.

Walk scored 16 for the winenrs while Burton added nine.

Neoga was led by Matusas with 10 and Kenworthy with seven.

Mattoon St. John's defeated Newton St. Thomas, 34-21.

The regional continues Tuesday with top-seeded Findlay Okaw Valley going against fourth-seeded St. Michael at 6 p.m. followed by Effingham Sacred Heart facing Mattoon St. John's at 7:15.

The winners advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael

Class 7-1A Mulberry Grove Regional

Altamont Lutheran, the lone area team in this regional, advanced with a 36-17 win over Mulberry Grove.

In other games, Ramsey won over Pocahontas, 44-18 and Pana Sacred Heart defeated Lovejoy, 39-20.

Ramsey advances to meet top-seeded East St. Louis Younge at 6 p.m. today while Altamont Lutheran faces second-seeded Pana Sacred Heart at 7.

The winners advance to the title contest Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 7-2A Hutsonville Regional

Dieterich fell in its opener to second-seeded Casey-Westfield, 52-14.

In other games, Hutsonville won over Villa Grove, 37-29 and Paris Crestwood defeated Arcola, 36-12.

Top-seeded Stewardson-Strasburg will take on Hutsonville at 6 p.m. Tuesday while Casey-Westfield and Paris Crestwood square off at 7:15.

The winners advance to the championship game at 6 p.m. Thursday.

 

Class 7-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

South Central, seeded fifth upset fourth-seeded Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 29-26 in the opening contest Saturday.

CHBC held a 9-5 opening quarter lead but South Central came back to pull within 16-15 at halftime.

Both teams scored four in the third quarter and South Central pulled out the win with a 10-6 final quarter.

L. Doehring led the winners with 12 points while Smith added 10.

CHBC was led by Brody Cox with 10 and Drake Thull with eight.

The regional continues Tuesday as top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony faces South Central at 5 p.m. followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown against Assumption Central A&M at 6:15.

The winners advance to the championsnip game Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis, seeded second, advanced in the second game of the day with a 44-8 victory over Jasper County.

The Shoes opened with a 10-0 first quarter run and led 23-0 at halftime.

Mason Giles led the way with 11 points wnile Louie Niebrugge contributed seven.

Alex Keller led Jasper County with three.

In the opener, Lawrenceville Parkview edged Marshall, 32-27.

The third game of the day went to Cumberland over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 46-20.

Top-seeded Robinson Nuttall will take on fourth-seeded Lawrenceville Parkview at 6 p.m. followed by second-seeded Teutopolis against third-seeded Cumberland at 7:15 p.m. today.

The winners advance to the championship game Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional

Stephen Decatur, Rochester and Charleston were winners in the first three games of the Taylorville Regional Saturday.

Fourth-seeded Stephen Decatur downed fifth-seeded Taylorville, 40-34.

Rochester, seeded second, won over seventh-seeded Mattoon, 47-17 and sixth-seeded Charleston upset third-seeded Mount Zion, 39-38.

Top-seeded Effingham was upset by Stephen Decatur in the second round Saturday, 32-30.

The Mustangs held a 13-7 opening quarter lead and led 18-17 at halftime. But Stephen Decatur came back with a 9-4 third quarter and held a 26-22 lead going into the final period and then held on for the victory.

Jared Klingelr and Calvin Beck led Effingham with seven points each.

Rochester was a 45-19 winner over Charleston in the fifth game.

Stephen Decatur and Rochester will now meet for the championship today at 5 p.m.

Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional
