Pirates To Play For LPC Tourney Crown, Shoes In Fifth Place Game At Highland, Newton In Title Game At LIC Meet

The Pirates ran out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead and held a 37-10 halftime tally as the game was put under the win column early.
Four players finished in double figures for Cumberland. Jude Miller led the way with eight field goals and five free throws for 24 points. Alysa Dittamore added 14 points while Suzy Fritts finished with 13 and Jade Carr added 10.
Sullivan was a 64-19 winner over Heritage in the opening game of the evening.
Cumberland will now face Sullivan at 7 p.m. Saturday for the tournament championship.
Heritage and Arcola will meet for third place at 5:30.
Cerro Gordo/Bement and Villa Grove square off for the consolation championship at 2:30. Tri-County and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond meet for fifth place at 4.

At Highland
Teutopolis advanced to the fifth place game in the 38th Annual Apex Network Physical Therapy Highland Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.
The Wooden Shoes edged Bethalto Civic Memorial, 36-33 to advance.
T-town held a 6-4 opening quarter lead as Chloe Probst and Anna Probst scored a basket each and Malea Helmink added two free throws.
Bethalto moved ahead 18-16 at halftime. as Allie Truetzschler scored six points.
But the Wooden Shoes came back with a 10-7 third quarter run as C. Probst hit two baskets and was two of two at the line for six points.
The Shoes finished out with a 10-8 final quarter run as A. Probst knocked in a three-pointer and hit two free throws. Helmink added three points.
T-town had only one player in double figures. C. Probst led the way with four baskets and two of two at the line for 10. A. Probst and Helmink added nine each.
Helmink led in rebounds with 10 and had one steal. C. Probst, Mollie Ruholl and Kelsey Niemerg had one steal each. Ruholl, Niemerg and Helmink finished with one assist each.
In other games, Edwardsville won over Highland, 62-26 and Nashville trounced Breese Maeter Dei 60-35.
Saturday's finals include O'Fallon vs. Nashville for the championship at 2:30. Breese Central and Breese Mater Dei meet at 1 p.m. for third place.
Chatham Glenwood and Belleville East will square off for the consolation championship at 10.

At Olney
Two games were contested Thursday evening at the Little Illini Conference Tournament at Richland County High School.
In the fifth place game, Olney was as 48-37 winner over Marshall.
The seventh place game went to Lawrenceville over Casey-Westfield, 50-40.
The tournament comes to a close tonight as Newton takes on Marshall at 7:30 for the championship and Robinson meets Paris at 6 for third place.
