BROWNSTOWN -- Sigel St. Michael and Stewardson-Strasburg advanced in the Eighth-Grade Boys National Trail Conference Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

 

St. Michael was a 35-27 winner over South Central in the first game of the evening.

Stewardson-Strasburg then edged North Clay, 40-39.

St. Michael and Stew-Stras will now meet for the championship at 8 p.m. while South Central and North Clay square off at 6:45 for third place. St. Elmo/Browntown and Effingham Sacred Heart meet at 5:30 for the consolation championship.

All three games will be played Thursday at Brownstown.

 

At Greenville

In the Greenville Eighth-Grade Tournament Tuesday evening, Aviston downed Hillsboro 26-23 while Piasa was a 20-18 winner over Carlinville.

Aviston and Piasa will now meet for the consolation championship Friday at 4 p.m.

St. Anthony will meet Salem at 6 p.m. Thursday and Staunton takes on Greenville at 7. The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m. while the losers will square off for third place at 6.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis was a winner over Newton St. Thomas in both B games Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest, 48-26. T-town held a 28-16 halftime lead then had a 12-4 third quarter run.

Owen Wermert led the Shoes with 12 points while Max Bloemer added eight.

Gier led St. Thomas with 13 while Pitcher finished with eight.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town won 36-18. The Shoes led 14-10 at halftime then had a 13-4 third quarter surge.

Gus Martin led T-town with six points while Mark Probst added five.

St. Thomas wa sled by Bierman with five.

At Paris

Jasper County fell twice to Paris Mayo in Tuesday evening action.

Paris Mayo won the seventh-grade game, 56-24.

Jasper County was led by Jacob Guzman with eight points. The top rebounder was Dawson Williams while the top passer was Grant Frichtl.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County fell 46-22.

Cambell Ulm and Brendan Emmerich scored six points each.

The seventh-grade squad is now 4-13 on the season while the eighth-grade team dropped to 8-10.

Jasper County is back in action today hosting Cumberland.
