St. A, CHBC Advance At NTC Girls Tourney, LIC, Highland Tourney Results

BEECHER CITY -- Effingham St. Anthony advanced in the winner bracket and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in the consolation bracket with victories Tuesday evening at the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Bulldogs handed Dieterich a 57-28 loss in the winner bracket. The Bulldogs ran out to a 16-6 opening quarter lead and led 36-12 at halftime. Nancy Ruholl scored six points in the opening quarter and came back with 12 on three trifectas, a regular basket and a free throw in the second period. Addi Nuxoll chipped in with six in the second quarter.

Ruholl led in scoring with 20 points on eight field goals, three from beyond the arc, and one free throw. Also in double figures was Nuxoll with 10 while Addi Lauritzen finished with nine.

Ruholl pulled down four rebounds, had three assists and five steals. Nuxoll finished with six rebounds, had three steals and four blocks. Lauritzen led in rebounds with 10 and had two steals.

St. Anthony now sports a 16-4 record and is 5-0 in the National Trail Conference.

Dieterich was led by Kady Tegeler and Brittney Niemerg with eight points each. Niemerg led in rebounds with seven. Sammi Goebel and Callie Faller had two assists each. S. Goebel, Kady Tegeler, Cassidy Goebel and Ella Kreke had one steal each.

In the consolation bracket contest, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City claimed a 64-47 victory over South Central.

CHBC's Macee Rodman had a big night, scoring 40 points. She connected on 15 field goals, three of those three-pointers, and was seven of 13 at the line.

The Bobcats held an 18-8 opeining quarter lead and led 35-21 at halftime.

South Central was led by Kaitlyn Swift with 22 points on six three-pointers and four of seven at the line.

The Cougars finished hitting 10 three-pointers.

The tournament continues tonight as Dieterich meets North Clay at 6 p.m. followed by Neoga against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:30, both in consolation bracket action.

Thursday's games include St. Anthony against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 6 and Altamont and Brownstown/St. Elmo meeting at 7:30 in the winner bracket.

At Olney

Newton moved into the championship game of the Little Illini Conference Tournament with a victory over Paris Tuesday evening.

The Eagles ran out to a 16-3 opening quarter lead and went on for a 64-45 win over the Tigers.

Camryn Martin led the scoring charge with 22 points on eight field goals, two of those three-pointers and four free throws. Three other players hit double figures. Addy O'Dell and Claire Probst added 12 points each while Karasyn Martin finished with 11.

The Eagles hit 18 field goals, four of those three-pointers, and were 16 of 19 at the line.

Probst led in rebounds with 16. C. Martin had three assists and four steals. K. Martin also had four steals.

Newton improves to 15-4 on the season.

In the other contest Tuesday evening, Mount Carmel easily downed Robinson, 42-17.

Mount Carmel and Newton will meet for the championship Friday at 7:30 p.m. while Robinson and Paris square off for third place at 6 p.m.

In Thursday games, Lawrenceville takes on Casey-Westfield at 6 p.m. for seventh place while Olney faces Marshall at 7:30 for fifth place.

At Highland

Nashville handed Teutopolis a 47-31 loss in the 38th Annual Apex Network Physical Therpay Highland Girls' Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

Nashville stepped out to a 14-7 opening quarter lead and led a 25-17 halftime tally. Nashville had a 22-14 second half run on the Wooden Shoes which included a 12-4 final quarter.

Chloe Probst led the Shoes with 12 points on three trifectas and three of four at the line. Also in double figures was Malea Helmink with 10.

Helmink led in rebounds with six while C. Probst and Kelsey Niemerg had five each. Mollie Ruholl, Niemerg and Helmink had one steal each.

Nashville was led by Samantha Brinkmann with 12, Emma Behrmann with 11 and Summer Brinkmann with 10.

T-town drops into a Thursday contest at 6:30 p.m. against Bethalto Civic Memorial. The winner of this game will advance to the fifth place game Saturday at 11:30.

In other games Tuesday, Triad edged Collinsville 44-40, Belleville East bounced Centralia 51-31 and Breese Mater Dei beat Bethalto Civic Memorial 40-36.

Today's games include Chatham Glenwood vs.Carlyle at 5 p.m., Triad against Belleville East at 6:30 and Breese Central facing O'Fallon at 8.
