FARINA -- South Central edged Neoga, 40-37 in a boys high school basketball contest Tuesday evening.

The Cougars ripped out to a 17-6 opening quarter lead behind a three-point barrage. Westin Neilson put in two three-pointers while Callaway Smith and Brody Markley connected on one each.

Neoga's six points came on two three-pointers by Landon Titus.

The Indians had a 12-8 second period run. Luke Keller put in a three-pointer and was two of two at the line while Carter Young hit from beyond the arc. But South Central still held a 25-18 halftime lead.

Neoga continued its comeback with a 12-9 third quarter to pull within 34-30 going into the final period. Gavin Ray hit a three-pointer and Keller had four points.

And despite another quarter going to Neoga with a 7-6 edge, South Central held on for the three point victory.

Neilson was the lone player for South Central in double figures with 12 on five field goals, two of those three-pointers.

Neoga was led by Titus with 12 points on four field goals, three from beyond the arc, and one of two at the ilne. and Keller with 11.

At Louisville

It was a high-scoring game for both teams as North Clay (Louisville) outlasted Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 80-76 Tuesday evening.

The two teams went head-to-head in the opening quarter, both scoring 20 points. The Hatchets then moved into a 40-35 halftime lead.

North Clay came back with a 17-13 third period to pull within 53-52 heading into the final period. In that final quarter, the Cardinals continued on with a 28-23 run for the four-point victory.

Cody Zimdars led four players in double figures for the Cardinals with 10 field goals, two of those from three-point range, and five of nine at the line for 27 points. Mason Byers chipped in with 20 while Carder Walden added 14 and Kade Atwood 12.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Jackson Gurgel with 24 points on six field goals, one from beyond the arc, and 11 of 13 at the line. Brody Bible added 15, Aiden Sayers 14 and Rylan Rincker with 10.

North Clay improved to 3-2 in the National Trail Conference and 11-7 overall.

Windsor/Stew-Stras dropped to 2-2 in the conference, 12-9 overall.

North Clay also claimed the junior varsity contest, 51-39.

At Louisville

At Altamont

Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville took a 19-15 opening quarter lead but couldn't hold on as Altamont came tearing back in the second half to claim a 56-46 victory Tuesday evening.

OPH was led by Graydon Kincaid with nine opening quarter points as it moved ahead 19-15. Callum Roeder scored five points and Trevan Webster four.

Altamont was led by Kade Millevile with six and Cooper McManaway hit a three-pointer.

OPH still held a lead at halftime by a 28-26 count. Riley Blank scored seven os hif team's nine points.

Altamont came back with an 11-point run led by McManaway with five points.

The Indians then went on a 17-12 third quarter run as McManaway connected on a regular basket and two three-pointers for eight in the quarter. Alex Waliker hit a three-pointer and Milleville was four of four at the line.

Altamont continued on with a 13-6 final quarter for the 10-point victory. Milleville scored five and Walker hit another three-pointer.

McManaway connected on six field goals, three from beyond the arc, and four of six at the line for 19. Milleville finished with 17 on six field goals and five of six at the line. The Indians are now 8-8 on the season.

Altamont also captured the junior varsity game, 66-27. Jacob Johnson scored 16 points while Cooper Pals had 11 and Calvin Bannister 10.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown trailed Martinsville 18-17 after the opening quarter but came back with a 13-7 second qiarter run to lead 30-25 at halftime and finished strong for a 52-38 non-conference win over Martinsville Tuesday evening.

Graiden Wilhour led the winners with 23 points on seven field goals, three from beyond the arc and six of seven at the line. He was the lone player in double figures. Lowell Wilhour added nine points and Jayden Hughett eight.

Hughett led in rebounds with five while L. Wilhour had four and led in steals with three. Hughett had two blocked shots. L. Wilhour finished with three assists.

The big statistic came at the free throw line where St. Elmo/Brownstown was 20 of 28 for 71 percent. G. Wilhour and L. Wilhour hit six of seven each.

The Eagles improved to 9-7 on the season and is back in action today at Edinburgh/South Forlk.

Cumberland put together 53 points while holding Heritage to only nine for a 53-9 victory Tuesday evening.

The Pirates held a 17-3 opening quarter lead and led 34-9 at halftime. Heritage did not score in the second half.

Three players finished in double figures for the Pirates. Chase Stewart led the way with 14 points on four three pointers and a regular basket. Isaac Venatta chipped in with 11 and Kelby Bierman 10.

At Mount Carmel

Newton took a 23-12 first half lead then held off Mount Carmel in the second half for a 54-42 victory Tuesday.

Two players finished in double figures for the Eagles. Kody Bergbower connected on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and was four of six at the line for 15. Hayden Mulvey chipped in with 14, connecting on four field goals, three from beyond the arc, and three of four at the line.

Mulvey also led in rebounds with seven.

Newton improved to 6-12 on the season and will be back in action Saturday at the LIttle Illini Conference Tournament against Casey-Westfield at 5:30 p.m.
