Effingham St. Anthony pushed its National Trail Conference record to 5-0 on the season and improved to 14-4 overall with a 72-45 victory over Neoga in girls high school basketball Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs ran out to a 22-12 opening quarter lead as Addi Nuxoll hit four baskets and a free throw for nine while Nancy Ruholl connected on a three-pointer and two of two at the line for five.

Bryn Richards hit four points for Neoga.

In the second quarter, Ruholl hit two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight while Nuxoll connected for six as the Bulldogs held a 48-25 halftime lead.

Richards scored seven in the second quarter for Neoga while Atalie Osborn tallied six.

St. Anthony had an 18-14 third quarter edge. Ruholl continued on with nine more points on a three-pointer and three regular baskets.

Richards knocked in 10 points for Neoga in the third period.

Three players hit double figures in scoring for St. Anthony, Ruholl led the way with eight baskets, four of those three-pointers, and two of two at the line for 22. Nuxoll added 19 points while Adysen Rios finished with 13.

Ruholl had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Nuxoll's scoring was a season high for her along with seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Rios pulled down eight rebounds and finished with five steals.

St. Anthony doesn't return to action until Tuesday in the National Trail Conference Tournament. The top-seeded Bulldogs will meet either Dieterich or South Central at 6 p.m. Dieterich and South Central meet Monday at 10 a.m.

Neoga was led by Richards with seven field goals, two of those from beyond the arc, and six of eight at the line for 22. Osborn tallied 14 on five field goals and four of four at the line.

The Indians fell to 10-10 on the season and return to action Saturday at Meridian High School in the CIC/NTC Tournament. Neoga will meet Warrensburg-Latham at 11:30 a.m.

In junior varsity action, St. Anthony claimed a 57-27 win.

The Bulldogs were led by Aubrey Denning, Avery Henning, Julia Schultz and Ali Kollmann with 11 points each.

Neoga was led by Laura Knobloch with 10.

At Altamont

Dayana Haslett scored 16 of her team's 26 opening quarter points and St. Elmo/Brownstown finished with a 51-20 victory over Altamont as two National Trail Conference teams met Thursday evening.

Haslett hit four regular baskets, two three-pointers and two of two at the line. Meanwhile Presley Williams scored seven points and Addie Sasse added a three-pointer.

Meanwhile, Altamont did not score a basket in that opening quarter.

The Bombers held a 36-9 halftime lead. Haskett continued on with nine of her team's 10 second quarter points.

Brownstown/St. Elmo had a 15-11 second half. Haskett led the way with 29 points on 11 field goals, three from beyond the arc, and four of four at the line. Williams and Madi Miller tallied seven each.

Altamont was led by Kylie Osteen with seven on two baskets, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line.

In the junior varsity contest, Altamont was an 18-13 winner.

The Indians were led by Justyce Higgs with 12 points.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Mya Barker and Lydia Dush with four each.

Teutopolis edged out to a 16-14 opening quarter lead then put it into high gear with a 16-4 second period run to lead 33-18 at halftime.

The Wooden Shoes went on for a 68-25 victory with a 44-7 second half.

Chloe Probst had a big scoring contest with 30 points on 11 field goals, four from beyond the arc, and four of four at the line. She connected on two three-pointers, a regular basket and four of four at the line for 12 in that opening quarter.

Also in double figures for T-town was Molly Ruholl with 12 points on five field goals, two from three-point range. Anna Probst and Kelsey Niemerg tallied eight each.

A. Probst led in rebounds with eight. Niemerg had two assists.

Flora was led by L. Jones with 14 points.

At Farina

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged out to a 10-9 opening quarter lead on South Central and went on for a 53-40 victory as two National Trail Conference teams met Thursday evening.

Katelyn VonBehrns scored five points for the Hatchets on a basket and three of three at the line. Sam Hayes chipped in with three.

The lead stood at 23-20 at halftime. South Central got on track with 11 second quarter points on two baskets by Baylee Brown and two free throws for seven and two by Percilla Reid for four.

But S. Hayes hit for six points in the third quarter and Kendra Hayes five as Windsor/Stew-Stras had a 15-14 edge to lead 38-34 head into the final period.

The Hatchets then finished out strong with a 15-6 final quarter. Ellie Wittenberg, who had scored only one basket through the first three quarters, broke loose with a three-pointer, two regular baskets and a free throw for eight.

S. Hayes finished with 21 points on nine field goals and three free throws. Also in double figures was was VonBehrns with 13 and Wittenberg with 10.

The Cougars were led by Brown with five field goals, three from beyond the arc, and four of four at the line for 17. Kaitlyn Swift finished with nine.

Dieterich picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday evening by a 52-36 tally.

The Maroons stepped out to a 12-4 opening quarter lead and led 20-8 at halftime.

Three players finished in double figures for the Maroons. Brittney Niemerg led the way with six field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of four at the line for 15. Addison Miller added 14 and Kady Tegeler 13.

Niemerg led in rebounds with seven while Miller had six. Kady Tegeler led in assists with four and steals with five. Niemerg also had five steals. Niemerg led in blocked shots with three.

Cumberland played host to Arcola and tallied a 61-49 victory Thursday evening.

The Pirates held a 39-17 halftime lead.

Jude Miller led the way with 29 points on 14 field goals that included one three-pointer. Alysa Dittamore also finished in double figures with 14 on five field goals and four free throws.

At Olney

Newton traveled to Olney to take on the Richand County Tigers and were easy winners by a 50-16 count Thursday.

The Eagles held a 27-6 halftime lead and had a 19-8 third quarter run.

Camryn Martin led the way with 18 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and seven of eight at the line. Karasyn Martin and Addy O'Dell finished with 12 each.

C. Martin led in rebounds with seven while K. Martin had six. K. Martin led in assists with four and C. Martin had three. K. Martin finished with 10 steals.

Newton improves to 4-1 in the Little Illini Conference and is 13-4 overall. The Eagles will be back in anction Saturday in the LIC Tournament facing Marshall at 5:30 p.m.

Richland County won the junior varsity contest, 38-31. Grace Schumacher and Alani Bergbower led the Eagles with eight each. The JV dropped to 3-2 in the conference, 6-4 overall.
