Effingham St. Anthony played host to Neoga and picked up a 63-30 National Trail Conference boys basketball victory Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs connected on 23 field goals that included 10 three-pointers and were seven of 14 at the line. 

Ryan Schmidt headed the Bulldogs towards victory with an eight-point opening quarter. He connected on one regular basket and two three-pointers. Neoga's lone basket was a three-pointer by Gavin Ray.

The lead went to 29-13 at halftime. Miles Waldhoff and Brock Fearday hit two three-pointers each while Keenan Griffith also hit from beyond the three-point line. B. Fearday finished with eight in the quarter.

B. Fearday continued on with a seven-point third quarter and Will Fearday also contributed seven points as the Bulldogs led 51-25 going into the final period.

B. Fearday hit eight baskets, three from trifecta land for 19 points. Waldhoff hit four baskets, two three-pointers for 10. W. Fearday finished with nine.

Neoga was led by Landon Titus with 11 points on three three-pointers and two of two at the line.

In the junior varsity contest, St. Anthony was a 64-34 winner. Miles Waldhoff scored 15 for the Bulldogs while Gabe Looman added 14 and Will Bierman 10.

Neoga was led by Brayden Ray with 11 and Fearday with 10.

In freshman/sophomore play, Neoga won 22-20.

At Effingham

The Hearts trailed Newton 10-5 after the opening quarter and 15-12 at halftime. But the Hearts rallied in the third quarter with a 14-7 run to move ahead 26-22 and held on for the 41-37 victory Tuesday evening.

Kody Bergbower scored two baskets for the Eagles in the opening quarter and Hayden Mulvey connected on two free throws.

Lance Volk was the leader for the Eagles in the second period scoring all five points.

Jake Niebrugge hit a three-pointer for Effingham while Jude Traub and Jacob Warner had a basket each.

Then in the third quarter, the Hearts went on a 14-7 run to move ahead 26-22. Max Flack hit two baskets and two free throws while KJ Kellams added five points and Max Buzzard a three-pointer.

EHS continued on in the final quarter, hitting four baskets and six of six at the line for the win.

Kellams was the lone player in double figures for the Hearts with 10 on three field goals, one a three-pointer, and three of three at the line. The Hearts improved to 6-11 on the season. They return to action Thursday playing host to Taylorville.

Newton was led by Bergbower with 15 points on five field goals and five of six at the line. Volk chipped in with 10.

At Effingham

At Windsor

South Central took the early lead but Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg came back in the second half to claim a 37-27 victory Tuesday evening.

The Cougars held a 21-11 halftime lead but Windsor/Stew-Stras tied the score in the third quarter at 24-24 then had a 13-3 final period run.

Jackson Gurgel led the winners in scoring with 17 points on five field goals and seven of nine at the line.

The Hatchets improved to 1-1 in the conference, 10-8 overall and are back in action hosting Ramsey Friday.

South Central was led by Westin Neilson with 11 points on four field goals, three from beyond the arc.

The Cougars dropped to 1-1 in the NTC, 10-5 overall.

Windsor/Stew-Stras claimed the junior varsity game, 56-38.

At Moweaqua

Altamont edged Moweaqua Central A&M by a 51-47 tally Tuesday evening in overtime.

The Indians trailed Central A&M 15-11 after the opening quarter and 23-19 at halftime.

Central A&M held a 37-30 lead going into the final quarter. That's when Altamont's Kade Milleville went on a run, hitting two field goals, one a three-pointer, and was four of four at the line for nine of the team's 14 points. Alex Walker chipped in with a three-pointer and Cooper McManaway hit two free throws.

In the overtime period, Altamont continued on with a 7-3 run for the victory. Milleville hit four of four from the line while McManaway added a two-pointer and Zaine Miller a free throw.

The Indians are now 6-8 on the season.

In junior varsity action, Central A&M was a 35-26 winner. Altamont was led by Jacob Johnson and Parker Bell with nine points each.

At Moweaqua

At Dieterich

Dieterch played host to Paris and sent the Tigers home with a 53-38 loss Tuesday evening.

The Movin' Maroons headed off to a 15-9 opening quarter lead as Lucas Westendorf hit two free throws and a three-pointer for five while Landen Keck connected on two baskets, also for five points.

Dieterich held a 31-18 halftime lead. Westendorf continnued on with seven points on three baskets and Keck added another five points on two baskets and a free throw.

Paris came back with a 14-8 third quarter to pull within 39-27 but Dietrich finished with a 14-11 final period.

Keck led the Maroons with 20 points on seven field goals, two from three-point range, and four of five at the line. Westendorf chipped in with 18.

St. Joseph-Ogden played host to Teutopolis and picked up a 55-40 victory Tuesday evening.

St. Joseph-Ogden took a 21-12 opening quarter lead and led 37-20 at halftime.

The Wooden Shoes came back with a 20-18 second half but couldn't make up that first half deficit.

Only one player scored in double figures for the Shoes. Gavin Addis led the way with 11 points on five field goals and one free throw.

Alex Kremer tallied nine points and Drew Hoene seven.

In the junior varsity game, Teutopolis was a 66-56 winner. Leading the Shoes were Landyn Buening with 13, Joey Probst with 12, Jason Kreke with 11 and Gavin Buening with 10.

Cumberland handed Arcola a 41-23 loss in Tuesday evening play.

Th Pirates ran out to a 13-1 opening quarter lead as five players scored. Chas eStewart, Reed Miller and Kaleb Bierman nailed a three-pointer each.

The lead went to 23-6 at halftime as Kade McMechan hit a three-pointer.

The Pirates had an 18-17 second half.

There were no Pirates players in double figures as nine scored in the contest. Kaleb Bierman led the way with seven points on three field goals, one a three-pointer.

At Arcola

At Martinsville

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged Martinsville, 49-46 in Tuesday evening action.

AJ Radloff got the Bobcats headed in the right direction by hitting five baskets that included two three-pointers, in the opening quarter for 12 of the team's 20 points.

The Bobcats held a 30-18 halftime lead as August Cosart hit two three-pointers.

The Bluestreaks came back with an 11-6 third quarter run to pull within 36-29 then finished out with a 17-13 final period only to fall short.

Three players scored in double digits for the Bobcats. Radloff finished with five field goals, two of those three-pointers, for 12 points while Remington Howell also had 12 points, hitting three field goals and six of seven at the line. Cosart tallied 10.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City also claimed the junior varity contest, 45-39. Ben Askins led with 16 points while Carter Dilley added 12.

At Martinsville

Lawrenceville came calilng and picked up an 81-61 victory over North Clay.

The Cardinals dropped to 10-5 on the season and will be back in action Friday at Altamont starting at 5 p.m.
