T-town Drops Loss, St. Anthony, Dieterich, Neoga, Cumberland, Newton, N. Clay Claim Girls Basketball Victories

Civic Memorial rushed out to a 21-10 opening quarter lead on the Shoes, behind four three-pointers. Marley Ogden connected on two while Marlee Durbin and Avery Huddleston hit one each.
The Eagles then had an 18-15 second quarter run to lead 39-25 at halftime. Ogden hit two more three-pointers while Marlee Durbin and Miller added one each. Bethalto held a 39-25 halftime lead.
T-town's Molly Ruholl scored two three-pointers in the opening quarter while Anna Probst put in two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight in the second period.
The Wooden Shoes came back with a 12-11 third quarter run on a basket and four free throws from Malea Helmink.
But Bethalto finished out with a 9-4 final quarter.
Only one player hit double figures for the Eagles but seven scored in the contest. Huddleston led with 13 while Durbin, Ogden, Miller and Allie Truetzschler were all on the verge of double figures with nine each.
T-town was led by A. Probst with 12 on five field goals, two from three-point range. M. Ruholl chipped in with 10 and Chloe Probst added nine points, pulled down nine rebounds and had one steal. M. Ruholl also had one steal. Helmink finished with seven rebounds.

At Salem
Effingham St. Anthony took on Salem in a non-conference matchup Monday evening and claimed a 56-37 victory.
The Bulldogs edged out to a 17-14 opening quarter lead as Addi Lauritzen and Nancy Ruholl provided the one-two scoring punch. Lauritzen connected on three baskets and two free throws for eight points while Ruholl hit three baskets and a free throw for seven.
St. Anthony held a 31-23 halftime lead as Lauritzen continued on with eight in the second quarter.
The scoring slowed down for both teams in the third period as the Bulldogs had a 10-9 edge but they finished out strong with a 15-5 final quarter. Ruholl ended with eight in that quarter.
Lauritzen led the way with 22 points on 10 field goals and two free throws while Ruholl added 21 on eight field goals and five of seven at the line. Also in double digits was Adysen Rios with 10.
Lauritzen finished with a double-double as she pulled down 10 rebounds. Ruholl added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Rios also had four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
In the junior varsity game, Salem was a 47-39 winner.
St. Anthony's Ali Kollman led with 13 points and Aubrey Denning added 12.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, playing host to Neoga at the Enlow Center.

At Dieterich
Three players finished in double figures as Dieterich handed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg a 73-66 overtime loss as two National Trail Conference teams met Monday evening.
Windsor/Stew-Stras tore out to a 20-9 opening quarter lead on Dieterich behind two three-pointers by Kendra Hayes and five points each by Katelyn VonBehrens and Ellie Wittenborg.
But Dieterich mounted a comeback with an 18-11 second quarter to pull within 31-27 at halftime. Sammi Goebel and Kady Tegeler connected on six points each while Addison Miller added five.
Then in the second half, Dieterich took control in the third quarter with a 24-18 run to pull ahead 51-49.
Brittney Niemerg went to work, nailing four baskets, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line for 11 while Goebel scored six.
Samantha Hayes kept the Hatchets within striking distance, scoring 12 of her team's 18 points while VonBehrens added the other six.
Windsor/Stew-Stras then had a 15-13 fourth quarter ahd tied the score at 64-64 sending the contest into overtime.
However, in the overtime period, the Maroons went on a 9-2 run to pull out the victory.
Three players finished in double figures for Dieterich. Tegeler led the way with eight field goals, one a three-pointer and four of five at the line for 21 points. Niemerg chipped in with 17 and Geobel added 16.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by S. Hayes with 22 on 10 field goals and two of two at the line. VonBehrens added 15 and Ellie Wittenberg 12.
The Maroons also claimed the junior varsity game, 32-30.
Dieterich was led by Cassidy Goebel with 10 points.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Kendra Hayes with 12.

At Pana
Neoga trailed after the opening quarter but came back to take the lead at half and went on for a 66-59 non-conference win over Pana Monday evening.
The Indians pushed into a 20-12 halftime lead.
Brynn Richards connected on four field goals and was 12 of 15 at the line for 20 points. Natalie Ballinger and Atalie Osborn also hit double figures with 17 each.
Neoga connected on 22 field goals and was 20 of 26 at the line.
Pana was led by Laker with 16, Cox with 15 and Hackler with 10.
Neoga improved to 10-9 on the season and returns to action Thursday to travel to Effingham St. Anthony.
Pana won the junior varsity contest, 53-9.

Cumberland edged out to a 17-16 opening quarter lead and went on for a 61-46 non-conference victory over Broadlands Heritage Monday evening.
The Pirates held a 31-26 halftime lead and had a 30-20 second half run.
Suzy Fritts led the winners with 22 points on nine field goals, one a three-pointer, and three free throws. Jude Miller chipped in with 13. Jade Carr and Raegan Jones added eight each.

At Mount Carmel
Newton improved to 11-4 on the season by edging Mount Carmel 50-48 in Monday evening competition.
The Eagles took a 12-10 opening quarter lead and led 24-22 at halftime. Newton had a 15-14 third quarter and Mount Carmel mounted a comeback in the final period only to fall short.
Camryn Martin led the way for the Eagles with nine field goals, two from three-point range, and two free throws for 22 points. Karasyn Martin also was in double figures with 10.
Claire Probst led in rebounds with 11. C. Martin had four assists and four steals while Addy O'Dell had four steals.
Newton is back in action tonight at Lawrenceville in a makeup conference game.
The Eagles also won the junior varsity contest, 39-23. Alani Bergbower and Grace Schumacher led with 12 points each while Maddie Brummer scored 10. The Eagles are 5-3 on the season.

Marshall claimed a 51-27 non-conference victory over Altamont in Monday evening action.
The Lions edged out to a 14-10 opening quarter lead and held a 23-15 halftime tally.
Welborn led Marshall with eight points in the opening quarter and seven more in the second period for 15 by halftime.
Kaylee Lurkins scored seven of the Indians' 10 first quarter points.
Altamont had a 10-8 third period lead as Lurkins added five more points and Ella Nelson chipped in with five.
But the Indians scored only two points in the final period.
Welborn led Marshall with 21 points on nine field goals and three of four at the line.
Altamont was led by Lurkins with six field goals and two of three at the line for 14 points.
Altamont edged Marshall 29-27 in the junior varsity contest.
Ada Roberts and Justyce Higgs tallied seven points each.

The Vandals tore out to a 19-3 opening quarter lead and led 33-12 at halftime.
M. Lupton scored 18 for the winners while O. Whitehead added 17 and B. Walk 14.
Leading South Central was Kaitlyn Swift with four field goals, two of those three-pointers, for 10. Lorelai Rose and Kennah Hiestand added seven ponits each.
