Windsor/Stew-Stras Finishes 4-1 At Tri-County Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament

KANSAS -- The Tri-County Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament came to a close Monday at Kansas High School.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg finished with a 4-1 record while Westville and Paris also finished with 4-1 records. Martinsville went 2-3, Tri-County 1-4 and Chrisman 0-5.

Windsor/Stew-Stras ended the day with two victories.

The Hatchets defeated Chrisman 78-49, taking a 21-17 opening quarter lead and leading 41-26 at halftime.

Jackson Gurgel led the way with 19 points on seven field goals, four of those from beyond the arc, and one of two at the line.

Also in double digits were Aiden Sayers with 15 and Blayzz Verdeyen with 14.

The Hatchets connected on 10 three-pointers in the contest led by Gurgel and Verdeyen with four each.

In the second game, Windsor/Stew-Stras downed Tri-County, 63-59.

The Hatchets edged out to a 19-12 opening quarter lead and led 34-30 at halftime as Tri-County came back with an 18-15 run.

Windsor/Stew-Stras and Tri-County then played to a 29-29 second half but the Hatchets held on for the four point victory.

Gurgel finished with 27 points on nine field goals, one a three-pointer, and eight of 11 free throws.

Also in double figures were Sayers with 14 and Brody Bible with 13.

The Hatchets connected on six three-pointers as Sayers put in four.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will be back in action Saturday at Okaw Valley with a noon start.

In other games Monday at the tournament, Paris won over Westville 49-38, Martinsville downed Tri-County 63-55, Paris beat Martinsville 55-38 and Westville bounced Chrisman 78-44.
