CHBC, Cumberland Win At St. Elmo Tourney, Conrad Allen Tournament Scores

ST. ELMO -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Cumberland advanced with victories in the 64th Annual St. Elmo Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

CHBC was a 66-38 winner over Ramsey in the consolation bracket.

CHBC ran out to a 23-4 opening quarter lead and that was the game.

Wyatt Rueff conencted on two regular baskets and a three-pointer for seven in the quarter while Kaidyn Calame hit two baskets and was two of two at the line for six. Hunter Pope knocked in a three-pointer.

The lead went to 39-19 at halftime. Rueff added seven more points for 14 by halftime. Pope, once again, hit a three-pointer.

Ramsey came back with a slight 15-14 third quarter lead but the Bobcats finished strong with a 13-4 final period as Pope connected on two more three-pointers and a regular basket for eight while Calame added a three-pointer.

Rueff and Pope finished with 16 points each to lead the Bobcats. Rueff hit seven field goals, two from three-point range, while Pope finished with six baskets, four of those three-pointers. Also in double figures was Calame with 14.

Ramsey was led by A. Trexler with 14.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City will now play for the consolation championship Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against either Mulberry Grove or Patoka/Odin. Those two teams played today at 6:15 p.m.

Cumberland held a 15-8 opening quarter lead but Hillsboro pulled within 21-19 at halftime.

The Pirates remained in control but the Hiltoppers pulled within 32-31 going into the final quarter.

Cumberland went on a three-point barrage as Chase Stewart put in two and Reed Miller hit a three-pointer and was two of two at the line.

In the final period, Cameron Roedl nailed a three-pointer as did C. Stewart who also had a free throw. 

Stewart was the lone player in double figures for Cumberland with 10 on three three-pointers and one of two at the line. Miller added nine.

The Pirates advanced to the championship game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and will meet either Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg or St. Elmo/Brownstown. Those two teams play today at 7:45 p.m.

At Wayne City

North Clay (Louisville) claimed another victory at the 70th Annual Conrad Allen Holiday Tournament Thursday evening.

The Cardinals won over Thompsonville, 72-60.

In other games, Edwards County downed Crab Orchard 76-50 and Grayville won over Sandoval 60-54.

North Clay is unbeaten in Pool A at 3-0 and will now face Wayne City who stands at 2-1, tonight at 7:30.

In other contests tonight, Cisne meets Crab Orchard at 6 and Webber Township wins a forfeit over Lovejoy.

The finals are scheduled Saturday, starting with the ninth place contest at 1 p.m. and finishing out with the championship at 7.
