Hearts Hand Bulldogs 59-41 Girls Basketball Loss

The Hearts came out a 59-41 victor behind two players in double figures and seven players scoring overall.
The opening quarter was a close one as the Hearts edged out to a 17-15 lead. Five players knocked in baskets for the Hearts as Sidney Donaldson connected on a three-pointer and regular basket for five while Bella Austin and Tessa Raddatz hit a three-pointer each.
Nancy Ruholl led the way for the Bulldogs with three baskets and a free throw for seven points.
The Hearts then started to edge away with a 13-8 second quarter to lead 30-23 at halftime.
Alyssa Martin tallied four in the first period then took over with six in the second quarter. Bria Beals went to the line to hit three of four.
Ruholl added four more points for 11 by halftime for the Bulldogs.
The Hearts then put the contest away in the third quarter with a 14-7 run that was led by Martin with two baskets and two free throws for six points while Averie Wolf hit two free throws and a three-pointer for five. Austin added on a second three-pointer.
EHS finished out with a 15-11 final quarter. Wolfe nailed a three-pointer and hit a regular basket and free throw for six in the quarter. Saige Althoff scored her first points with five in the period.
Martin finished with 18 on eight field goals and two free throws while Wolfe tallied 15 on five field goals and three free throws. Wolfe led the Hearts in rebounds with five and had five assists.
The Hearts hit 42.3 percent from the field and 56.2 percent from the free throw line. They knocked in six three-pointers for 37.5 percent. EHS now stands at 11-2 on the season.
St. Anthony was led by Ruholl with 21 points on nine field goals and two of two at the line. Ruholl also led the Bulldogs in rebounds with 10. Ady Rios had three assists.
The Bulldogs, who are listed as No. 1 in the latest Class 1A state basketball poll, hit 30.1 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. They connected on one three-pointer. The Bulldogs dropped to 10-2 with the loss.
The Hearts also captured the junior varsity matchup, 54-38.
EHS was led by Drew Weis with 18 and Mara Braun with 12.
The Bulldogs were led by Addie Lauritzen with nine and Aubrey Denning and Ali Kollmann with eight each.
