Teutopolis, SEB Win, EHS Falls In Saturday Boys Basketball Games

TOLONO -- Teutopolis High School claimed a 56-43 win over Tolono Unity in a Saturday high school boys basketball contest.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 13-10 opening quarter lead and held a 29-24 halftime tally.

T-town then came back with a 16-8 third quarter run and finished out playing Tolono Unity even in the final period.

Only one player hit double figures for T-town. Mick Niebrugge led the way with 12 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of two at the line.

Isaac McWhorter and Landyn Thoele added nine points each.

T-town improved to 4-1 on the season and will be back in action Tuesday, playing host to Paris.

In the junior varsity contest, T-town was a 63-14 winner.

Five players hit double figures for the Shoes. Davin Worman led the way with 14 points while Joey Probst added 12. Landyn Buening, Kendall Mette and Jake Kocher all scored 10 points each.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown took off to a 13-7 opening quarter lead and went on for a 63-48 non-conference victory over Tri-County Saturday.

SEB held a 30-19 halftime lead. Tri-County came back with a 14-9 third quarter but SEB went back into high gear with a 24-15 final quarter.

Lowell Wilhour scored 25 points to lead the winners. He connected on seven field goals, one from three-point range, and was 10 of 10 at the line. He led in steals with two. Also in double figures was Graiden Wilhour with 20 points on seven field goals, three trifectas and three free throws. He led in rebounds with eight.

The Eagles hit 21 of 44 from the field for 48 percent and were 15 of 16 at the line for 94 percent.

Tri-County hit 17 of 48 from the field for 35 percent and were eight of 15 at the line for 53 percent.

At Carbondale

Effingham led 38-32 going into the final quarter and could only muster one basket in a 45-41 loss to Carbondale in Saturday play.

The Hearts edged out to an 11-9 opening quarter lead as Jude Traub scoredf our points and Cannon Bockhorn hit a three-pointers.

Bockhorn came back in the second quarter to score seven of Effingham's 11 points as the Hearts led 22-21.

EHS came out with a 16-11 third quarter as five players scored. KJ Kellams hit a three-pointer and a two-pointer for five while Hayden Wendling added four points and Traub connected on a three-pointer.

But only Traub scored in the final quarter on a three-pointer and Carbondale tallied 13 to pull out the victory.

Bockhorn and Traub led the Hearts with 10 points each.
