St. Anthony, T-town Drops Losses at 7-2A, 7-3A State Girls Tourneys

In the opening game, Spring Valley Kennedy won over Sidell Salt Fork, 32-25. Springfield Christian downed Bourbonnais, 53-24 and Bloomington Corpus Christi beat Mason City Illini Central, 27-14.
Mt. Sterling Brown County took a 15-5 opening quarter lead over St. Anthony and led 35-13 at halftime.
St. Anthony battled in the second half only to fall short.
Amaya Griffith led the Bullpups with 10 points while Bella Schultz added seven. The Bullpups ended their season with a 20-4 record.
In the semifinals, Spring Valley Kennedy edged Springfield Christian, 33-32 while Mt. Sterling Brown County easily won over Bloomington Corpus Christi, 43-17.
Spring Valley Kennedy will meet Mt. Sterling Brown County Thursday for the state championship. Springfieldd Christian and Bloomignton Corpus Christi will compete for third place at 6 p.m.
In the Class 7-3A State Tournament at Auburn High School, Teutopolis fell to Springfield Lincoln, 35-31.
The two teams were tied at 10-10 after the first quarter. Lincoln then moved into a 26-18 halftime lead. T-town fought back with a 10-6 third period to trail 32-28 but Lincoln held on for the victory.
Penny Dennis and Addisyn Meyer led the Wooden Shoes with nine points each. T-town finished with a 24-2 record.
In other opening round games, Germantown Hills won over Channahon 42-16, Westville downed South Holland McKinley 44-11 and Staunton won over Downs Tri-Valley 30-26.
In the semifinals, Germantown Hills edged Westville 26-24 and Staunton downed Springfield Lincoln 52-36.
Westville and Springfield Lincoln will meet Thursday for third place at 6 p.m. while Germantown Hills and Staunton square off at 7:30 for the championship.
