Effingham and Effingham junior high school split victories in boys basketball competition Thursday evening.

In seventh-grade action, Effingham claimed a 33-26 victory over the Bullpups.

St. Anthony took a 9-1 opening quarter lead and led 17-10 at halftime.

But the Mustangs came roaring back with a 14-6 third quarter to pull ahead 24-23 and then had a 9-3 final period.

Jared Klingler led Effingham with 12 points on four three-point shots.

St. Anthony was led by Schumacher and Phillips with nine points each.

The Bullpups were winners in the eighth-grade contest, 36-33. St. Anthony edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead and led 23-20 at halftime.

St. Anthony had a 4-0 third quarter run and then held off the Mustangs who came back with a 13-9 final period.

Blake Verdeyen led St. Anthony with 17 points. The Bullpups are now 12-1 on the season.

Effingham was led by Joel Flack with 10.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg claimed two victories over Effingham Sacred Heart in Thursday evening action.

Stew-Stras remained unbeaten at 10-0 with a 36-15 win in seventh-grade play.

Duncan and Richter led the winners with 12 points each. Stew-Stras is now 7-0 in the National Trail Conference

Sacred Heart was led by Gabe Traub with 10.

Sacred Heart held an 11-7 opening quarter lead but Stew-Stras moved ahead 16-15 at halftime then had a 13-5 third quarter run. Stew-Stras went on for a 43-31 victory.

Kaufman scored eight while Friese, Vonderheide and Spannagel had seven each in even scoring for the winners. Stew-Stras improved to 6-1 in the NTC and 10-2 overall.

Sacred Heart was led by Mason Karolewicz with 15 points.

At Louisville

North Clay and Jasper County claimed a victory each Thursday evening.

North Clay claimed the seventh-grade contest, 50-40. Jasper County took a 21-18 halftime lead but North Clay came roaring back with a 32-19 second half.

Robey led North Clay with 15 points while Ruholl added 13.

Jasper County was led by Maverik Horner with nine. Dawson Williams was the top rebounder and Grant Frichtl the top defender. Jasper County dropped to 3-7.

In eighth-grade competition, Jasper County was a 55-41 winner.

Jasper County trailed North Clay 23-22 at halftime but came roaring back with a 17-7 third quarter and finished with the 55-41 win.

Brendan Emmerich led the winners with 16 points while Hank Huber added 13. Huber and Jacob Ferguson were the leading rebounders with 12 each. Emmerich and Chase Kistner were the top defenders. Kistner was the top passer.

Jasper County is 5-5 on the season.

Lewis led North Clay with 18 points while Frost added 13.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City swept Altamont in junior high competition Thursday evening.

CHBC was a 37-25 winner in the seventh-grade game. The Bobcats took a 20-10 halftime lead and had a 13-7 third quarter run.

Drake Thull scored 18 for the winners while Lane Reed added seven.

Altamont was led by Jack Neu with 19.

In eighth-grade action, CHBC won 45-34. Altamont took a 21-17 halftime lead but CHBC came back with a 12-5 third quarter and finished out with a 16-8 final period.

Zach Bennett tallied 14 and Lyric Davis 10 for the winners.

Bannister led Altamont with 17 points.

At Cowden

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis was an easy winner over Vandalia in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes zipped out to a 17-0 opening quarter lead and led 33-4 at halftime and went on for a 46-8 win.

Max Bloemer led the way with seven points while Mason Giles, Josh Pruemer and Dalton Willenborg added six each.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town won 47-16, running out to a 19-4 opening quarter lead and led 29-4 at halftime.

Gus Martin led 16 players in scoring with eight points.

Dieterich traveled to Windsor and came back home with two victories Thursday evening.

Dieterich won the seventh-grade contest, 35-8. Niemerg got the winners off in the right direction scoring 10 of the team's 12 opening quarter points for a 12-0 lead.

Dieterich led 15-0 at halftime and 31-6 after three quarters.

Swingler finished with 14 points to lead the winners while Niemerg tallied 12.

Windsor was led by Nadolny with seven.

In the eighth-grade game, Dieterich held an 11-8 lead after the opening quarter and 23-12 at halftime.

McQueen led the way with 13 points while Goeckner added nine.

Windsor was led by Hartman with 15 and Rinker with 11.
