Effingham St. Anthony ran out to a 22-12 opening quarter lead Tuesday evening at the Enlow Center and went on to beat Salem 68-48 in boys high school basketball.

Ryan Schmidt got the Bulldogs off and running with 10 points in that opening period. Schmidt connected on a three-pointer then hit two regular baskets and put in three free throws. Keenan Griffith added a three-pointer and finished with five in the quarter and Brock Fearday hit a three-pointer.

The lead went to 41-17 at halftime. Schmidt scored seven more for 17 by halftime. Will Fearday finished with five and Miles Waldhoff hit a three-pointer as the Bulldogs ended with five trifectas by halftime.

The Wildcats came back with an 11-6 third quarter but St. Anthony held a 47-28 lead going into the final period and finished out with a 21-20 edge.

Schmidt tallied 19 points on five field goals, two from three-point range, and a perfect seven of seven at the line. B. Fearday added 15 while W. Fearday was at 13. Six other players scored in the game for St. Anthony.

Salem was led by Nix with 15, Bevelo 12 and Warren 11.

The Wildcats claimed the junior varsity contest, 52-49. St. Anthony was led by Miles Waldhoff with 16. Will Vonderheide and Will Bierman had nine each.

At Casey

Casey-Westfield put this game away in the opening quarter with a 26-5 run and finished with a 65-36 win over Effingham in a game heard on 979XFM Tuesday evening.

Hayden Parcel was on a roll for the Warriors. After missing the first two attempts at a basket, he hit two three-pointers and two regular baskets for 10 in the quarter. Ryan Richards added two three-pointers.

The Hearts' Jude Traub scored on a three-pointer and Hayden Wendling connected on two free throws. The Hearts missed 11 other attempts at a basket in the quarter.

EHS broke loose with 12 points in the second period but trailed 42-17 at halftime. Cannon Bockhorn knocked in two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight.

Casey-Westfield had a 21-19 second half. The Warriors hit 53.1 percent for the game from the field and 75 percent at the free throw line.

Richards finished with 19 points to lead Casey-Westfield while Parcel added 12 and Jackson Maulding 10.

Effingham was led by Traub and Cannon Bockhorn with eight points each. The Hearts connected on 30.9 percent from the field and a hundred percent at the line.

At Neoga

Two National Trail Conference teams clashed in Tuesday evening action. Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City came out a 57-55 winner over Neoga in overtime.

The Bobcats edged out to a 10-7 opening quarter lead as Clive Schlanser connected for five points. The lead for CHBC stood at 26-18 at halftime. Wyatt Rueff, who missed two shots in the opening quarter, came back with two regular baskets, a three-pointer and a free throw for half of his team's 16 points.

But Neoga was just about to get rolling. The Indians' Gavin Ray scored three baskets and a free throw for seven while Luke Keller hit four of four from the free throw line and a regular basket for six in the run and Neoga had tied the score at 37-37 going into the final quarter.

The two teams tallied nine each in the final quarter, sending the contest into overtime. Kaidyn Calame hit a three-pointer and a free throw while Cosart put in a basket and three of four from the free throw line as the Bobcats had an 11-9 run to pull out the 57-55 victory.

Rueff finished with 19 to lead the winners. He connected on eight baskets, one from three-point range, and two of four at the line. Calame added 12.

Neoga was led by Keller with 19 on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and eight of nine at the line.

At Strasburg

Windosr/Stewardson-Strasburg played host to Sullivan and captured a 60-53 victory Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets ran out to a 22-15 opening quarter lead but Sullivan came back within 31-27 at halftime. Windsor/Stew-Stras then had a 16-7 third quarter run and held off Sullivan in the final period.

Windsor/Stras-Stras connected on 19 of 21 free throws.

Four players hit double figures for the winners. Brody Bible led the way with 18 points while Rylan Rincker added 15, Aiden Sayers 14 and Jackson Gurgel 12.

The Hatchets improved to 3-2 on the season.

Sullivan claimed the junior varsity contest, 49-40.

At Altamont

Zaine Miller got Altamont off in the right direction, hitting two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight in the opening quarter 14-8 run against Cumberland Tuesday evening.

Kade Milleville then took over the scoring duties in the second quarter with three baskets and two free throws for eight points. Parker Bell added a three-pointer and Altamont held a 25-14 halftime lead.

Milleville continued his hot scoring with two more baskets and two of two at the line in the third period and Altamont led 36-22 going into the final quarter.

Milleville finished out strong with two three-pointers and a regular basket and tallied 24. He hit nine field goals, two from three-point range, and was four of seven at the line.

Also in double figures was Miller with 15 points.

Cumberland didn't have a player in double figures but four players, Kade McMechan, Cameron Roedl, Chase Stewart and Isaac Venatta finished with six points each.

Altamont also claimed the junior varsity contest by a 66-32 count. Jacob Johnson scored 16 and Carson Milleville 13 for the winners. Cumberland was led by Isaac Vanetta with nine.

Dieterich handily downed Cisne 68-34 in a Tuesday evening contest.

The Maroons stepped out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead as Landen Keck nailed two three-pointers and two regular baskets for 10 while Lucas Wesendorf chipped in with five.

Brock Niemerg took over the scoring duties for Dieterich in the second quarter 18-9 run to lead 37-19 at halftime. Niemerg nailed four three-pointers and a regular basket for 14 in the period. Ezra Cook added another three-pointer.

Dieterich held a 67-27 lead going into the final period with a 30-8 third quarter. Keck and Niemerg scored seven each in that run. Westendorf added a three-pointer.

Niemerg tallied 23 points on nine field goals, five from three-point range. Keck added 17 on seven field goals, three trifectas.

The Maroons connected on 11 three-pointers in the contest.

Cisne was led by K. Dagg with 11 points.

South Central took a 34-9 opening quarter lead and went on to trounce Ramsey by a 90-22 tally Tuesday evening.

The Cougars' Seth Bergmann went on a big time scoring run in that opening quarter. He connected on five three-pointers and hit two regular baskets for 19 points. Westin Neilson added two three-pointers for six.

Bergmann continued on with three baskets in the second period as South Central held a 58-12 halftime lead.

Bergmann finished with 32 points on 13 field goals, six from three-point range. Also in double figures was Smith with 10 points. Eleven players scored in the contest for South Central.

Ramsey was ed by McClosky, Reiss and Williams with four points each.

Newton High School trailed Vandalia after the opening half but came back with a 34-23 second half to pull out a 55-47 victory Tuesday evening.

The Vandals held a 14-10 opening quarter lead. Newton had an 11-10 second period but still trailed at halftime.

The Eagles then broke loose with an 18-3 third quarter run.

Hayden Mulvey tallied 23 points on eight field goals, three of those trifectas, and four of four at the line. Kody Bergbower chipped in with 15 and led in rebounds with seven.

Newton is now 2-2 on the season and returns to action Friday at Paris.

St. Elmo/Brownstown fell victim to Webber Township Bluford by a slight 59-53 count Tuesday evening.

Webber edged out to a 12-8 opening quarter lead and led 18-15 at halftime. Webber then had a 22-15 third quarter run.

St. Elmo/Brownstown came back with a 23-19 final quarter but couldn't make up that third quarter.

Lowell Wilhour and Graiden Wilhour scored 20 points each for SEB. L. Wilhour hit seven field goals, three of those three-pointers and was three of six at the line while G. Wilhour hit seven field goals, four three-pointers and was two of two at the line.

L. Wilhour led in rebounds with nine while Jayden Hughett added seven. Hughett led in blocked shots with two L. Wilhour led in assists with six.

St. Elmo/Brownstown is now 3-2 on the season and will travel to Neoga Friday.

North Clay (Louisville) handed Martinsville a 78-65 non-conference loss Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals are now 3-1 on the season.

North Clay also claimed the junior varsity win, 46-34.
