ALTAMONT -- Altamont broke an 11-11 opening quarter tie with a 13-6 second period and it was off to the races for the Indians in a 52-33 National Trail Conference victory over Dieterich in girls high school basketball action Monday evening in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

The two teams scored 11 in the first quarter. Altamont's Libby Reardon connected on a three-pointer while Avery Aldrich put in two baskets and two free throws for six.

Addison Miller hit a three-pointer and regular basket for Dieterich with five points.

Altamont then went on a 13-6 second period tear to lead 24-17 at halftime. Kaylee Lurkins scored two regular baskets and a free throw for five.

Miller led Dieterich with two baskets.

Altamont continued on after halftime with a 15-6 third period to lead 39-23. The Indians knocked in three trifectas by Ella Nelson, Reardon and Kylie Osteen.

Osteen finished out with seven points in the final period 13-10 run.

Aldrich led the way for Altamont with 17 points on seven of seven from the field and three of four at the line. Osteen chipped in with 14 points and led in assists with five. Lurkins and Nelson led in rebounds with five each.

Dieterich was led by Miller with 14 points. Kady Tegeler, Faller and Sammi Goebel had four rebounds each. Tegeler led in assists with five.

In the junior varsity contest, Altamont was a 30-14 winner.Justyce Higgs led the team with 14 points.

Dieterich was led by Lena Goebel and Cassidy Goebel with six each.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony pushed its record to 6-1 on the season with a 68-9 victory over Okaw Valley Monday evening.

The Bulldogs ripped out to a 28-3 lead on Okaw Valley in the opening quarter. Nancy Ruholl went on a run, leading the Bulldogs with 11 points on five baskets, one a three-pointer. Adi Lauritzen chipped in with six points.

The lead went to 46-5 at halftime. Ruholl added on six more points to her total while Kallie Kabbes chipped in with two baskets.

St. Anthony held Okaw Valley scoreless in the third period while putting together 17 more points for a 63-5 lead. Adysen Rios hit four baskets for eight points while Elisabeth Grunloh nailed a three-pointer.

Ruholl led the way for the Bulldogs with 19 points on eight field goals, one of those a three-pointer, and two of two at the line. Ruholl also had six rebounds and eight steals. Rios finished with 13 points and had five rebounds and five steals. Lilly Gannaway and Kabbes finished with seven points each. Gannaway led with five assists, five steals and had only one turnover in the game. Adi Nuxoll had five points, five steals and five rebounds.

There was no junior varsity game.

The Bulldogs head to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Thursday for a National Trail Conference contest.

 At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg played host to Neoga and claimed a 56-47 National Trail Conference win Monday evening.

The Hatchets edged out to an 18-13 opening quarter lead as Katelyn VonBehrens scored seven points while Sam Hayes chipped in with five that included a three-pointer.

Neoga came back to tie the score at 30-30 at halftime. The Indians made the comeback from the free throw line, hitting five of five in the opening quarter and eight of 10 in the second period. Brynn Richards knocked in nine opening quarter points and tallied seven in the second period. She connected on seven of seven from the free throw line.

But Windsor/Stew-Stras had a 21-14 third quarter run to lead 51-44 going into the final period. Kendra Hayes hit three baskets that included two three-pointers for eight while Ellie Wittenberg scored six points and Claire Holland put in a three-pointer.

The Hatchets struggled at the free throw line, connecting on only four of 15.

The two teams slowed way down offensively in the final period as WSS had a 5-3 edge.

The Hatchets were led by K. Hayes with 17 points on seven field goals, two from three-point range, and one of two at the ilne. S. Hayes contributed 13 while Wittenberg added 12.

Neoga was led by Richards with 23 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and eight of nine at the line. The Indians drop to 4-2 on the season and play host to North Clay Thursday.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed a 69-17 win over South Central as two National Trail Conference teams met Monday evening.

The Bombers put the game away in the first quarter, outscoring South Central, 31-4. Dayana Haslett went on a run, hitting six field goals that included one three-pointer and was one of two at the line for 14 points. Madi Miller added seven points while Presley Williams finished with six.

In the second quarter, BSE had a 15-5 run to lead 46-9 at halftime. Haslett added on six more points and Jaydin Huddlestun scored five.

Haslett finished with 11 field goals, one from three-point range, and one of two at the line for 24 to lead the Bombers. Also in double figures was Williams with 14.

South Central was led by Baylee Brown and Kennah Hiestand with five each.

In the junior varsity contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed a 32-7 victory. Lydia Dush led the way with 12 points while Addison Koonce added eight.

South Central was led by Cambria Allen with three points.

Cumberland ran out to a 16-8 opening quarter lead and went on to down Casey-Westfield, 48-33 Monday evening.

The Pirates held a 24-16 halftime lead.

Two players hit double digits for Cumberland. Jade Carr led the way with 16 while Jude Miler added 15. Carr hit four three-pointers while Miller added three.
