Dieterich Second At C'land Boys Tourney

The Movin' Maroons defeated Vandalia, 65-48 in Friday action to advance to the championship while Casey-Westfield edged Marshall, 49-45.

In other Friday games, North Clay pounded Okaw Valley 83-60 while Cumberland edged Newton 48-44 in the consolation bracket.

In Saturday's championship game, Casey-Westfield edged out to a 10-6 opening quarter lead on Dieterich and then pushed that to 30-16 at halftime.

The Warriors held a 45-27 lead going into the final quarter. Dieterich made a comeback bid only to fall short.

Casey-Westfield was led in scoring by Ryan Richards with 20 points while Hayden Parcel added 16 and Nolan Clement 11.

Dieterich was led by Lucas Westendorf with 18 points and Landen Keck with nine.

Third place went to Marshall over Vandalia, 54-49.

In the consolation championship, North Clay downed Cumberland, 64-49 in overtime. The Pirates held a 14-8 opening quarter lead but North Clay came back to move ahead 26-24 at halftime.

The Cardinals then had an 11-9 third period to lead 37-33. But Cumberland came back with a 16-12 fourth quarter to knot the score at 49-49, sending the contest into overtime.

In the overtime period, Carden Walden, who had connected on six of six from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, hit three of four in the overtime period and knocked in two baskets for seven points while Cody Zimdars put in a basket and was four of five at the line for six, Kade Atwood hit two of two free throws and the Cardinals pulled out the win.

North Clay was led by Zimdars with 24 points on five two-pointers, a three-pointer and 11 of 14 at the line. Walden added 19 and Mason Byers had 13.

Cumberland was led by Kelby Bierman with 16, Zack Harmon with 14 and Kaleb Bierman with 10.

The seventh place contest went to Newton over Okaw Valley, 57-47.

The Eagles took a 19-12 opening quarter lead and led 28-23 at halftime. Okaw Valley pulled within four going in the final quarter but Newton had an 18-12 run.

Kody Bergbower hit six field goals, two of those three-pointers, and was nine of 12 at the line for 23 points to lead the Eagles. Jacob Oldham chipped in with 12.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were Landon Keck (Dieterich), Payton McGuire (Marshall), Kody Bergbower (Newton),  Cody Zimdars (North Clay), Braden Montgomery (Okaw Valley), Wade Brannon (Vandalia), Nolan Clement (Casey-Westfield), Cameron Roedl (Cumberland), Lucas Westendorf (Dieterich) and the Most Valuable Player Hayden Parcel (Casey-Westfield).
