EHS, Newton Winners At Bob Kerans Girls Tourney

The Hearts opened with an easy win over Flora by a 58-9 tally.

EHS ran out to a 25-3 opening quarter lead as Saige Althoff connected for eight points while Sidney Donaldson  Alyssa Martin and Bella Austin chipped in with four each.

Brian Beals had five points in the second quarter and the Hearts led 40-5.

Donaldson added six more points to her total in the third quarter 10-4 edge. And the Hearts finished with an 8-0 final period.

Althoff led the way with 12 points while Donaldson added 11. Martin and Austin chipped in with eight each.

The Hearts are now 4-0 on the season.

Newton captured the second contest over Altamont, 67-28.

The Eagles flew out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead and led 35-14 at halftime.

Camryn Martin led the way for Newton with eight field goals and four of four at the line for 20 points. She connected on eight in the second and eight in the third quarters.

Also in double digits were Addy O'Dell and Karasyn Martin with 11 each.

Altamont was led by Kaylee Lurkins with 10 points on three field goals and four of four at the line.

The tournament comes to a close Friday with Flora against Altamont at noon for third place and Newton and Effingham meeting at 1:30 p.m. for the championship.
