EHS Drops First Contest At St. Anthony Turkey Tourney

The Tigers took a 15-4 opening quarter lead as Herbert Martin connected on five baskets for 10 points and Miccah Butler hit a three-pointer.
The lone points for the Hearts came from Cannon Bockhorn with a basket and two free throws.
The lead went to 36-4 at halftime. Butler and Tucker Undstedt hit two three-pointers each for the Tigers.
Effingham's basket came from Nolan Fearday and the Hearts trailed 36-6.
The Hearts came back with a 12-8 third period run as Bockhorn hit two baskets and Adam Flack a three-pointer. EHS played Edwardsville even in the final period, 16-16.
Martin led Edwardsville with 16 points while Butler added 11.
The Hearts were led by Bockhorn with nine points on three field goals and three of four at the line. Brady McDaniel chipped in with six, all in the final period.
In other games, Champaign Central won over Robinson, 59-31 and Breese Central downed Mattoon, 63-51.
The tournament continues play tonight as Effingham is back in action in the opener against Rantoul at 5 p.m. Robinson takes on Mattoon at 6:30 and St. Anthony meets Edwardsville at 8.
The tourney continues Friday with four games that have Rantoul against Edwardsville at 3, Breese Central meeting Robinson at 4:30, Mattoon against Champaign Central at 6 and St. Anthony and Effingham squaring off at 7:30. The tournament finishes out with the finals Saturday.
