EHS, Newton Win Openers at Bob Kerans Girls Basketball Tournament, T-town Wins, Neoga Falls

Effingham handed Altamont a 58-29 loss in the opening contest.
The Hearts edged out to an 11-8 opening quarter lead as five different players scored a basket each. Saige Althoff hit the lone three-pointer in the period.
EHS had a 13-11 second period to lead 24-19 at halftime. Bella Austin connected on two baskets and Sidney Donaldson had two free throws.
Altamont was led by Kaylee Lurkins in the second quarter with six points while Kylie Osteen hit a three-pointer.
The Hearts then put the game away with an 18-6 third quarter run to lead 42-25. Alyssa Martin and Sidney Donaldson led the way with six points each.
Three players hit double digits for EHS. Martin hit eight field goals and was one of one at the line for 17 points. Austin chipped in with 11 and Donaldson added 10.
Altamont was led by Osteen with nine points and Lurkins with eight.
In the second contest, Newton easily handled Flora, 52-19. The Eagles swept out to a 25-2 opening quarter lead and that was the game.
Karasyn Martin led the way for Newton with 18 points while Camryn Martin added 16. K. Martin connected on eight field goals, two from three-point range while C. Maritn hit five field goals, one from three-point range, and was five of six at the line.
C. Martin, Claire Probst and Maddie Brummer pulled down six rebounds each for the Eagles. C. Martin led in assists with four and steals with 11.
The tournament continues Wednesday as Effingham and Flora meet at 6 p.m. followed by Newton against Altamont at 7:30.
The tourney will come to a close Friday.

At Salem
Teutopolis ran out to a 17-10 opening quarter lead and went on for a 48-25 regular season victory over Salem Monday evening.
The Wooden Shoes' Chloe Probst connected on two free throws and two three-pointers in the opening quarter for eight points while Molly Ruholl added a three-pointer and two free throws for five.
The lead went to 30-12 at halftime as Anna Probst took over with six points while Kelsey Niemerg added five.
T-town had a 47-22 halftime lead and came back with an 18-13 second half.
Two players hit double figures for the Shoes. A. Probst led the way with six field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of four at the line for 15 points. C. Probst added four field goals, two three-pointers, and three of four at the line for 13.
A. Probst and Niemerg led in rebounds with five each. C. Probst had three steals.

At Marshall
Marshall ran out to a 23-14 opening quarter lead and went on to hand Neoga a 62-26 loss in a regular season contest Monday evening.
The Lions held a 37-16 halftime lead and had a 21-4 third quarter.
Brynn Richards led the way for Neoga with 14 points on four field goals and four of six at the line. She connected on two three-pointers.
Neoga drops to 1-1 on the season and will be back in action Friday hosting the Mary Sur Shootout.
Marshall was a winner in the junior varsity game, 43-32.
