Effingham Sacred Heart and Altamont split victories in junior high boys basketball Thursday evening.

 

The Shamrocks ran out to a 14-0 lead in the seventh-grade game and went on for a 42-13 win.

Traub tallied 19 while Hayes added 10 for Sacred Heart

Altamont was led by Neu with eight.

In the eighth-grade game, Altamont edged Sacred Heart, 40-39 in overtime.

The score was tied at 21-21 at halftime. Sacred Heart moved ahead 32-30 going into the final quarter and Altamont came back with a 7-5 run to tie the score and send the game into overtime.

In the overtime session, Altamont had a 3-2 edge for the win. Veteto scored a basket and Neu a free throw in the overtime period.

Logue led Altamont with 19 poitns while Bannister added 12.

Sacred Heart was led by Traub with 16 and Karolewicz with 12.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony was a winner over Mattoon in Thursday evening action.

The seventh-grade Bullpups easily won by a 48-8 count. The score was tied at 5-5 after the opening quarter but St. Anthony went on a 25-1 second quarter run and never looked back.

P. Phillips and R. Schumacher led with 11 each.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony won 31-11. The score was knotted at 4-4 after the opening quarter and 10-10 at halftime. St. Anthony then went on a 10-1 third quarter run behind B. Verdeyen's six points and finished out with an 11-0 final quarter.

Verdeyen finished with 16 points as the lone player in double digits.

At Effingham

Effingham claimed two victories over Charleston Thursday evening.

The seventh-grade Mustangs were 29-27 winners.

EJHS edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead and led 12-11 at halftime. The Mustangs then had a 12-6 third quarter behind six points by Deek Thompson and Calvin Beck. Charleston came back with a 10-5 final quarter but Effingham held on for the victory.

In eighth-grade action, the Mustangs won 34-26. EJHS held an 11-7 opening quarter lead and led 20-13 at halftime.

Joel Flack had 15 points while Dagg Thompson added 10 for the Mustangs.

North Clay played host to Windsor and claimed two victories Thursday evening.

North Clay captured the seventh-grade contest 42-11, taking an 11-0 opening quarter lead and leading at halftime 17-2.

McCulley led the way with 14 points while Cade added nine for the winners.

Windsor was led by Madolay with seven.

In the eighth-grade contest, North Clay won 47-22. North Clay ripped out to a 15-4 opening quarter lead and led 26-7 at halftime.

Lewis scored 18 and Frost 17 for the winners.

Windsor was led by Hartman with 10.

At Toledo

Teuotpolis downed Cumberland in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-garde game, 41-25. The Shoes stepped out to a 10-2 opening quarter lead and had an 8-4 final period.

Maddux Pals led the way with 12 points.

Cumberland was led by Miles with 14.

In eighth-grade play, T-town ripped out to an 18-4 first quarter lead and led 32-10 at halftime.

Sammy Probst had 10 points for the Shoes who had 15 players score in the contest.

Walker led Cumberland with five points.

At Dieterich

South Central came calling and picked up two victories over host Dieterich Thursday evening.

South Central won the seventh-grade contest 49-9. The winners ran out to an 18-3 opening quarter and led 34-5 at halftime.

Two players hit double figures for the winners. L. Doehring led the way with 19 while J. Smith added 12.

Dieterich was led by S. Brummer with three.

In the eighth-grade contest, South Central won 36-19.

South Central took a 6-3 opening quarter lead and led 11-9 at halftime. The two teams scored six each in the third quarter before South Central had a 10-4 final quarter for the victory.

J. Smith scored 12 and C. Tockstein 11 for the winners.

Dieterich was led by McQueen with 11.

Neoga fell to Mattoon St. John's in Thursday evening action.

Mattoon St. John's won the seventh-grade game, 32-28.

The score stood tied at 14-14 at halftime before St. John's moved ahead 24-21 and then had an 8-7 final quarter.

Neoga was led by Liam Kenworhty with 11 points and Baylor Matusas with nine.

In eighth-grade play, St. John's trailed Neoga 20-9 after the opening quarter but came back to hold Neoga scoreless in the second and third period while moving ahead 35-20.

Brody Strobl scored nine points to lead Neoga.

SEB claimed the seventh-grade game, 46-36 with a 28-15 second half run.

S. Wilhour scored 20 for the winners.

CHBC was led by Drake Thull with 16.

In eighth-grade play, the Bobcats downed St. Elmo/Brownstown 53-47.

CHBC led 27-20 at halftime and held off a second half challenge.

Kaisyn Calame scored 22, Zach Bennett 14 and Lyric Davis 12 for the winners.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by M. Schaub with 23.
