Wooden Shoes Claim Second Win at NAL Girls Basketball Tourney

The Wooden Shoes defeated Champaign Central, 68-29.

T-town ran out to a 19-6 opening quarter lead as Avery Probst scored nine of those points on four baskets and one of two at the line. 

The Shoes pushed into a 35-15 halftime lead. Chloe Probst hit two three-pointers while Molly Ruholl hit a trifecta. Kelsey Niemerg scored six points.

A. Probst continued in the third quarter 22-14 run with two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight.

The Shoes finished out with four players in double figures. A. Probst led the way with 20 points on seven field goals, two from three-point range, and four of six at the line. Niemerg contributed 13 while C. Probst and M. Ruholl added 10 each.

Eva Mette led in rebounds with six. Niemerg  led in steals with six while Malea Helmink had five. The Shoes finished with 25 steals in the contest and pulled down 22 rebounds to only nine for Champaign Central.

In other games Wednesday evening, Richland County, Olney won over Terre Haute South, 41-33, Terre Haute North bounced Charleston 59-13 and Paris pounded Danville 50-18.

The tournament continues Saturday with Paris against Charleston at 10 a.m. and Terre Haute North facing Danville at 11:30, both at Paris High School Gym. Champaign Central and Terre Haute South meet at 10 a.m. and Teutopolis takes on Richland County at 11:30 a.m. at Eveland Gym.

The tournament will conclude beginning at 2 p.m.with the seventh-eighth place contest followed by fifth-sixth at 3:30, third-fourth at 2 p.m. and the championship game at 3:30 p.m.
