Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Regionals -- Nov. 16

The seventh-grade girls basketball regionals got underway Saturday around the area. Following are results from those regionals:

 

Class 7-1A Decatur Unity Regional

Neoga opened its stay at the Decatur Unity Regional with a victory.

Neoga easily downed Decatur Unitiy, 30-12.

In other first round games, Springfield Christ the King blanked DeLand-Weldon 52-0, Decatur American Dreamer downed Findlay Okaw Valley 24-12 and Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell edged Mount Pulaski, 14-12.

Neoga will now square off against Springfield Christ the King at 5:30 p.m. today.

Decatur American Dreamer and Lincoln West Lincoln Broadwell meet at 6:30.

The winners advance to the championship game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

 

Class 7-1A Pana Sacred Heart Regional

Effingham Sacred Heart was a winner over Oblong by a 28-18 count in the opening game of the Pana Sacred Heart Regional Saturday.

The second contest went to Mattoon St. John's over Ramsey, 24-4.

Top-seeded St. Michael advanced to meet Effingham Sacred Heart and won 38-21.

In the fourth contest, Pana Sacred Heart won over Mattoon St. John's 34-19.

St. Michael and Pana Sacred Heart will now meet for the regional championship Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 2A Nokomis Regional

Two area teams met in the opening game of the Nokomis Regional Saturday.

Altamont edged Brownstown/St. Elmo by a 9-8 count.

In the second contest, two more area teams squared off as Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed South Central, 15-11.

CHBC held a 6-2 opening quarter lead and led 10-4 at halftime. South Central came back with a 7-1 third quarter run but CHBC got back on track with a 4-0 final quarter.

Valentina Doty led the winners with five points while Halee Goeckner and Elaina Thompson added four each.

South Central was led by Webster with nine.

The final contest saw Nokomis win over Stewardson-Strasburg, 36-14.

The regional continues tonight as Altamont faces Assumption Central A&M at 6 p.m. followed by CHBC against Nokomis, at 7:15. The winners advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Class 2A Palestine Regional

North Clay's season came to a close at the Palestine Regional Saturday.

North Clay fell to Edwards County (Albion), 36-19.

In the second game, Casey-Westfield won over Palestine, 36-8.

Edwards County advances to meet top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony at 6 p.m. followed by No. 2 Dieterich against Casey-Westfield at 7:15 today.

The winners then advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 7-3A Sullivan Regional

Macon Meridian won over Decatur Johns Hill in the opening game of this regional, 18-15.

In the second contest Saturday, Pana downed Shelbyville Moulton, 30-12.

Macon Meridian faces top-seeded Teutopolis at 6 p.m. today while Pana meets Sulivan at 7:15 p.m.

The winners advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 7-3A Paris Mayo Regional

Robinson Nuttall was a winner in the opening game of the Paris Mayo Regional Saturday.

Nuttall downed Marshall 36-22.

In the second contest,  Red Hill (Bridgeport) won over Paris Mayo, 22-19.

Jasper County then blanked Cumberland 33-0.

Robinson Nuttall advances to face top-seeded Lawrenceville Parkview at 6 p.m. today while Jasper County takes on Red Hill at 7:30.

The winners will meet Wednesday for the regional championship at 7 p.m.

 

Class 7-4A Mount Zion Regional

Effingham came out a winner in the opening contest of the Mount Zion Regional Saturday.

The Mustangs defeated Rochester 38-14.

The second game went to Taylorville over Charleston 46-14.

Mattoon then defeated Stephen Decatur 40-15.

Tonight's games feature Effingham against top-seeded Mount Zion at 5 followed by Taylorville and Mattoon squaring off at 6:30 p.m.

The winners meet Wednesday at 5 p.m .for the regional championship.
