Effingham St. Anthony improved to 4-0 in seventh-grade boys basketball play with a 36-24 win over Sigel St. Michael Monday evening.

The Bullpups held an 11-6 opening quarter lead and led 19-14 at halftime. The Bullpups then had a 17-10 second half.

Eight players scored for St. Anthony led by R. Schumacher with seven points.

St. Michael was led by Brody Burton with eight.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony won 45-20.

The Bullpups held a 20-6 first half lead as B. Verdeyen scored eight points in the opening quarter, C. Hoene connected on two three-pointers, one in each quarter and S. Looman scored six in the second period.

Verdeyen and Looman finished with 12 points each to lead the Bullpups.

The Sharpshooters were led by C. Dasenbrock with seven.

At St. Anthony

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg downed Newton St. Thomas in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Monday evening.

Stew-Stras ran out to a 17-0 lead in the seventh-grade game and went on for a 41-2 victory.

Pruemer led the way for the winners with 11 points as the team improved to 3-0.

Ochs scored the lone field goal for St. Thomas.

In the eighth-grade game, Stew-Stras was a 37-28 winner. St. Thomas held a 14-6 opening quarter lead but Stew-Stras tied the score at 20-20 at hafltime. St. Thomas led 25-24 going into the final period. Stew-Stras then broke the game open with a 13-3 run for a 37-28 win.

Hille scored 14 and Slifer 13 for the winners who are 3-0. St Thomas was led by Bierman with 13.

At Strasburg

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up two wins over Flora in Monday evening play.

The Wooden Shoes tore out to a 30-10 opening half lead in the seventh-grade contest and finished with a 52-14 victory.

Mason Giles led the way with 17 points while Connor Althoff scored 10.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town held a 30-22 halftime lead and outscored Flora 17-15 in the second half for a 47-37 win.

Two players hit double figures. Sammy Probst led with 15 while Kale Goeckner added 13.

T-town will play host to Effingham Thursday.

At Newton

Jasper County played host to Dieterich and picked up two victories Monday evening.

Jasper County zipped out to a 21-5 opening half lead and never looked back in a 37-11 win.

Two players scored in double figures for the winners. Jacob Guzman led the way with 13 points while Grant Frichtl added 11. Alex Keller was the top rebounder while Frichtl was the top defender and passer.

Dieterich was led by Brody Niemerg with four points.

In the eighth-grade game, Jasper County was a 48-29 winner. Jasper County had an 18-2 opening quarter run and led 31-11 at halftime.

Jacob Ferguson led the way in scoring with 15 points. Brenden Emmerich was the top rebounder and defender while Chase Kistner was the top passer.

Dieterich was led by Goeckner with nine and McQueen with eight.

Jasper County is 3-1 on the season in both seventh- and eighth-grade.
