Effingham scored 22 points in both seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball play to down Altamont in both contests Monday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade game, 22-12. Altamont edged out to a 2-0 opening quarter tally and led 6-2 at halftime.

It took Effingham until the second half to get into scoring mode with a 10-2 third period and a 10-4 final quarter for the win.

Bailey tallied 10 to lead EJHS.

Altamont was led by Burrus with five.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham claimed a 22-16 victory. Once again, Altamont took the early lead 4-1 in the first quarter. But this time around, Effingham came charging back with an 8-3 second period to lead 12-7 at halftime. But Altamont rallied and held a 13-12 third quarter lead. Effingham then had a 10-3 final period to take the win.

Abby Johnson scored eight for the winners.

Altamont was led by Bauer, also with eight points.

At Brownstown

Dieterich was a winner over Brownstown/St. Elmo in both games Monday evening.

The Roadrunners took the seventh-grade contest, 23-6, zipping out to a 16-0 opening half lead.

Emery Bill tallied 12 points, had eight steals and five rebounds for the winners. Emma Williams had eight steals. Mackenzie Roedl led in assists with four.

In the eighth-grade contest, Dieterich won 35-11. Dieterich edged out to a 7-6 first half lead then broke the game open with a 16-2 third period run.

Claire Faller tallied 12 for the winners, had six rebounds and two assists. Violet Iffert also had six rebounds. Melanie Niemerg and Valeyn Smith led in steals with four each. 

In the seventh-grade C contest, the Roadunners claimed the win 12-4. Ava Benefiel scored 10 of the 12 points, had eight rebounds and four steals.
