In the seventh-grade contests, Effingham split victories.
The Mustangs won against Waterloo 30-28. Waterloo edged out to an 8-7 lead with all four baskets from Soto. Soto again was the only scorer with seven more points. But the Mustangs came back with an 8-7 second period run on a regular basket and a three-pointer from Deek Thompson and a three-pointer by Hunter Yager and the Mustangs tied the score at 15-15.
In the third period, Effingham had a 7-1 run to lead 22-16 and then had to hold off a charging Waterloo in the final quarter.
Thompson led Effingham with 15 points while Calvin Beck had eight and Yager seven.
Effingham fell to Triad 39-27.
Triad ripped out to a 14-4 opening quarter lead and held a 22-9 halftime lead.
Effingham's Thompson finished with 23 points on nine field goals, five of those from three-point range.
In eighth-grade action, Waterloo claimed a 35-28 win over Effingham.
Waterloo held a 16-13 halftime lead then pushed that to 30-16 going into the final quarter, holding Effingham to only one third period basket..
The Mustangs were led in scoring by Dagg Thompson with nine points and Kaden Rohr with eight.
In the game against Triad, the Mustangs captured a 46-39 victory.
Effingham stepped out to a 15-7 opening quarter lead behind eight points by Bryden Kade. Kade continued on with seven more points as Effingham held a 28-22 lead at halftime.
The Mustangs had an 11-7 third period as Joel Flack scored six points and then held off Triad in the final quarter.
Kade led the way with 20 points while Da. Thompson added 14 for Effingham.

At Troy
Teutopolis competed in the Troy Triad Shootout Saturday.
The Wooden Shoes won both seventh-grade games. T-town trounced Highland by a 32-12 count, taking a 22-12 halftime lead and holding Highland scoreless in the second half.
Maddux Pals scored nine to lead the winners.
In the second contest, T-town claimed a 47-12 win over Mascoutah.
T-town held a 23-10 halftime lead then almost did the same as they did in the first game, only this time holdling Mascoutah to only two points in the second half for the win.
Connor Althoff led with 12 points while Mason Giles tallied 10.
In eighth-grade action, T-town fell to Highland, 50-39. Highland took the early lead by a 14-5 opening quarter count. T-town mounted a furious rally in the final period with a 10-2 run but fell 50-39.
Kale Goeckner scored 15 for the Shoes.
In the second contest, Mascoutah edged the Shoes, 33-31. Mascoutah took a 13-6 opening quarter lead. T-town fought back within a point at 17-16 and the two teams played to an even 11-11 third period. T-town couldn't get over the hump as Mascoutah had a 5-4 final period.
Sammy Probst led with 14 points while Blake Niemerg added eight.

At Newton
Jasper County fell twice to Marshall in junior high boys action Saturday.
Marshall was a 41-37 winner in the seventh-grade contest. The two teams were tied at 8-8 after the opening quarter. Marshall moved ahead 17-12 at halftime. Jasper County came back with a 25-24 second half but it wasn't enough.
Jacob Guzman scored 15 points to lead Jasper County. Grant Frichtl led in rebounds and was the top passer. Alex Keller was the top defender.
In the eighth-grade contest, Marshall took a 13-1 opening quarter lead and led 25-5 at half and went on for a 41-10 victory.
Jasper County was led by Cambell Ulm with three points. Brenden Emmerich was the top rebounder, Hank Huber the top defender and Jacob Ferguson the top passer.
Jasper County is 2-1 in both seventh- and eighth-grade play.
