Effingham Sacred Heart and Martinsville split junior high boys basketball victories Thursday evening.

The Shamrocks were a big winner in the seventh-grade contest, 62-5. Sacred Heart ran out to a 24-1 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Bryce Hayes and Gabe Traub provided the one-two scoring punch with 14 points each. Hayden Bushue added nine and Jaxon LaSarge eight.

In the eighth-grade game, Sacred Heart took a 24-21 halftime lead but Martinsville had a 14-7 third quarter run and played the Shamrocks even in the final quarter for a 45-38 win.

Gabe Traub scored 15 while Mason Karolewicz added 13 for the Shamrocks.

At Effingham

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony was a winner over Charleston in both games Thursday evening.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade game 39-34. Charleston edged ahead 4-3 in the opening quarter and held a 12-11 halftime lead. St. Anthony came roaring back with a 17-12 third period and had an 11-10 final quarter for the 39-34 victory.

Parker Phillips scored 16 for the winners.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony easily won 46-16. The Bullpups ran out to a 13-4 opening quarter lead behind R. Verdeyen's nine points. C. Tingley took over in the second period, scoring seven points as the Bullpups led 30-8.

Verdeyen finished with 19 points for the winners while C. Bierman and Tingley added nine each.

At Louisville

Stewardson-Strasburg played host to North Clay and send the visitors home with two lossses Thursday evening.

Stew-Stras ripped out to a 26-3 opening quarter lead in seventh-grade play and went on for a 65-16 victory.

Pruemer was the lone player in double figures with 10 while Richter, Howe and Duncan added eight each as Stew-Stras improved to 2-0.

In eghth-grade action, Stew-Stras took a 39-29 victory. The winners held a 20-14 hafltime lead then had a 19-13 third quarter.

Hille scored 12 and Kaufman nine. Stew-Stras improved to 2-0 and returns to action Monday hosting Newton St.Thomas at 6 p.m.

At Altamont

Altamont ant Newton St. Thomas each picked up a win Thursday evening.

Altamont was a 52-35 winner in seventh-grade play. Altamont took a 32-12 halftime lead.

Four players hit double digits for the winners. Jack Neu led the way with 14 points while Peyton O'Dell added 13, Hayden Veteto 11 and Blayke Huston 10.

St. Thomas was led by Gier with 17 and Bevis with 14

In the eighth-grade contest, Newton St. Thomas was the one who took a big first half lead, 23-4. G. Bierman knocked in eight points in the opening quarter and had 12 by halftime.

St. Thomas had a 24-11 second half. Bierman led in scoring with 14 points while Seaton and Earnest added nine each.

Altamont was led by Potts with nine points.

Okaw Valley came calling and picked up two victories over Neoga Thursday evening.

Okaw Valley won the seventh-grade game, 45-21.

Okaw Valley held a 19-13 halftime lead then went on a 17-6 third quarter run that broke the game open.

Neoga was led by Bayler Matusas with 12 points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Okaw Valley ripped out to a 13-1 opening quarter lead and led 25-5 at halftime. The squad went on for a 41-23 victory.

Neoga was led by Brady Strobl with 12 points.

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Altamont Lutheran.

T-town was a 40-16 winner behind a 30-7 opening half run. The Wooden Shoes had even scoring as Owen Wermert led with seven while Maddux Pals and Mason Giles had six each and Kason Meyer and Connor Althoff five each.

Altamont Lutheran was led by Grasher with 11.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town ran out to a 26-4 opening quarter lead and led 52-4 at halftime. The Shoes went on for a 70-11 win.

Sammy Probst had 13 points for the Shoes while Kale Geockner and Derek Drees scored nine each.

At Altamont

Sullivan came calling and claimed two wins over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday.

Sullivan won the seventh-grade game 21-17 taking a 7-5 opening half lead.

CHBC was led by Lane Reed with eight points.

In the eighth-grade game, Sullivan ran out to a 24-4 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 59-25 win.

Kaisyn Calame led CHBC with 11 points.
