NTC Eighth-Grade Tourney, Girls Basketball Results -- Oct. 29

The National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament got underway Tuesday evening at Beecher City.

In the opener, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged Altamont, 28-27. CHBC held a 10-7 opening quarter lead but Altamont pulled within 16-15 at halftime. Altamont moved ahead 25-22 in the third quarter but CHBC came back with a 6-2 run to pull out the one-point victory.

Sophie Zumbahlen and Elaina Thompson scored eight points each for the winners.

Altamont was led by Alyssa Ruholl with 12.

In the second contest, which also was close, Efifngham Sacred Heart beat Brownstown/St. Elmo, 25-23.

The two teams were tied at 8-8 after the opening quarter. BSE moved ahead 14-10 at halftime. The Shamrocks came back with a 6-2 third period to tie the score at 16-16. Then in the final period, Sacred Heart finished with a 9-7 run to pull out the victory.

Cora Bierman led Sacred Heart with 12 points.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Savannah Mason and Sierra Mason with eight points each.

The tournament continues tonight as Sigel St. Michael meets Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 5:30, Neoga takes on North Clay at 6:45 and Dieterich meets South Central at 8.

The tournament will be held Friday and will end Saturday.

At Flora

Effingham St. Anthony continues to roll along.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest over host Flora, 28-10. St. Anthony edged out to a 12-11 halftime lead then had a 16-10 second half run.

Schultz led the way with 14 points while N. Semple added 10 for the Bullpups.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony took an 8-3 opening quarter lead but Flora came back to move ahead 11-10 at halftime. St. Anthony then went on a 17-2 third quarter run.

Budde led with 14 points while Stephens chipped in with nine for the winners.

At Paris

Effingham and Paris Crestwood picked up a victory each during Tuesday evening play.

The Mustangs claimed the seventh-grade victory by a 25-9 tally.

Paris Mayo led 5-4 after the opening quarter but the Mustangs went on an 8-0 run to lead 12-5 at halftime. Effingham kept Paris Crestwood off the scoreboard also in the third period to lead 21-5.

Bailey led the way for Effingham with 13 points.

Paris Crestwood tallied a 41-24 win over Effingham in the eighth-grade contest.

Crestwood took a 9-4 opening quarter lead and led 24-9 at halftime.

Crippes led the way for the winners with 22 points.

Effingham was led by April Martin with 11.

At Olney

Teutopolis continued to run through opponents, downing Richland County, Olney in both contests Tuesday evening.

In the seventh-grade game, T-town was a 36-6 winner. The Shoes took a 17-2 opening half lead and had a 14-4 third quarter.

Zerrusen scored 13 to lead the way for the Shoes who are now 15-0.

In eighth-grade action, T-town ripped out to a 17-0 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 48-13 win.

Drees led the Shoes with 25 points while Martin added eight. T-town's eighth-grade teams is also 15-0.
