Dieterich, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Sigel St. Michael picked up victories in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Wednesday evening.

 

Dieterich claimed a 22-11 win over Altamont in the opening contest.

Mya Ohnesorge led the winners with six points. The top rebounder was Lydia Kreke with eight.

Sigel St. Michael picked up the second contest win over Neoga, 33-18.

St. Michael broke a 4-4 opening quarter tie to lead 11-10 at halftime. The Sharpshooters then had a 22-8 second half run.

B. Niebrugge scored 23 for the winners.

Neoga was led by N.Hartke with five.

In the final game of the evening, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 21-16.

CHBC held a 4-0 opening quarter lead and led 8-4 at halftime. The Bobcats then had a 13-12 second half edge.

Valentina Doty tallied eight points to lead the winners.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Morris with five and M. Manhart and French with four each.

The tournament continues tonight as Dieterich and Brownstown/St. Elmo square off at 6 p.m. followed by Sigel St. Michael and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:15 p.m. The winners advance to the championship game Saturday at 11:30 a.m. while the losers will play for third place Saturday at 10:15.

In Friday's games, Altamont faces South Central at 5:30 and Neoga meets Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 7:15 in consolation bracket action. The winners will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday for the consolation championship.
