Effingham Junior High School split victories with Salem Franklin Park in girls basketball action Thursday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest by an 18-16 count. Franklin Park took a 7-4 opening half lead and led 16-10 going into the final quarter. Effingham rallied, holding Franklin Park scoreless in the final period while scoring eight points to pull out the victory.

Bailey tallied eight points to lead the Mustangs.

In the eighth-grade game, Franklin Park claimed a 33-24 victory. Franklin Park edged out to a 13-12 halftime lead then had a 20-12 second half.

Effingham was led by April Martin with 12 points and Abby Johnson with eight.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony claimed the seventh-grade contest while Mattoon was the winner in eighth-grade action Thursday.

The Bullpups ran out to a 15-4 opening quarter lead and went on for a 39-28 victory. Z. Schultz led the way with 16 points while Sylvia Semple added six.

In eighth-grade play, Mattoon edged out to a 15-14 halftime lead then had an 18-17 second half for a 33-31 victory.

St. Anthony was led by Patience Crockett with seven points and Payton Clark and Carly Budde with six each.

At Dieterich

Dieterich was winner in all three games against South Central Thursday evening.

Dieterich won the C game, 36-3. Ava Benefiel led the way for the winners with 14 points. Nora Wente led in rebounds with five.

In seventh-grade action, Emery Bill led as Dieterich won 39-11. Bill finished with 19 points. Lydia Kreke was the top rebounder with four.

In the eighth-grade game, Dieterich won 28-19. Violet Ifert tallied nine and Claire Faller eight for the winners. Lexie Funneman pulled down six rebounds.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Brownstown/St. Elmo both picked up a victory Thursday evening.

CHBC was the winner in the seventh-grade matchup by a 17-3 count. CHBC held an 8-2 halftime lead and outscored BSE 9-1 in the second half.

Reese Vaughn led CHBC with eight points while Elaina Thompson added seven.

Kinley Schwarm scored the three points for BSE.

In the eighth-grade contest, BSE was a 33-17 winner, edging out to an 11-8 halftime lead then outscoring the Bobcats 16-4 in the third period.

Savannah Mason tallied 12 for the winners.

CHBC was led by Harper Lilly, Valentina Doty and Thompson with four each.

Pana Sacred Heart came callng and handed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg a 23-15 loss Thursday evening.

Sacred Heart edged out to a 4-2 opening quarter lead and led 13-7 at halftime. Sacred Heart had a 10-8 second half.

M. Manhart led Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg with six points while I. Manhart added five. The team dropped to 4-7 on the season.

North Clay (Louisville) won over Sandoval in Thursday action by a 24-4 tally.

It was the first victory for North Clay which improved to 1-7 on the season.

North Clay is back in action tonight at Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.
