CHARLESTON -- Effingham St. Anthony claimed a 30-10 victory in seventh-grade girls basketball action Thursday evening.

The Bullpups took a 10-3 opening quarter lead and led 20-3 at halftime.

Hueber led the way with 14 points for the Bullpups.

There was no eighth-grade contest.

At Charleston

At Effingham

Taylorville came calling and picked up a 33-3 victory over Effingham in eighth-grade competition Thursday.

Taylorville took a 7-1 opening quarter lead and led 21-1 at halftime.

The Mustangs were led by April Martin with three points.

No seventh-grade results were turned in.

At Strasburg

Dieterich traveled to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and claimed victories in both seventh-grade B and seventh-grade C games.

In the C contest, Dieterich won 16-10. WSS had a 2-0 opening quarter lead and led 8-2 at halftime. But Dieterich came back with a 12-0 third period run and claimed the win.

Nora Wente tallied six points to lead the winners and Ava Benefiel pulled down six rebounds.

WSS was led by Eliza Pruemer with six points.

In the seventh-grade B contest, Dieterich stepped out to a 13-4 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 36-13 win.

Emery Bill finished in double figures for the winners with 13. Lydia Kreke led in rebounds with eight.

WSS was led by I. Manhart with seven points as the team dropped to 3-5.

At Strasburg

At Sigel

Sigel St. Michael handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City losses in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday.

In the seventh-grade contest, the Sharpshooters won 26-22. St. Michael led 16-7 at halftime. CHBC made a comeback bid in the second half witih a 15-10 run but fell short.

Niebrugge led the way for St. Michael with 16 points.

CHBC was led by Elaina Thompson with 11 and Reese Vaughn with nine. The Bobcats are now 7-3.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Michael was a 40-8 winner, taking a 22-4 first half lead.

T. Niebrugge led the way for the Sharpshooters with 14 points while B. Niebrugge added 10.

CHBC was led by Vaughn with three. The Bobcats drop to 2-7 on the season.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis edged Lawrenceville 26-25 in the seventh-grade contest Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes trailed 8-7 after the opening quarter and 15-9 at halftime. T-town started its comeback with a 9-6 third quarter to pull within 21-18 and finished out with an 8-4 final period for the victory.

Dennis scored nine for the Shoes while Zerrusen added six.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town edged out to an 8-5 opening quarter lead then went on a scoring binge. The Shoes had an 18-2 second period and a 28-2 third quarter to finish with a 60-15 win.

Drees scored 19 points while Martin had 18 for the Shoes.

Both the seventh- and eighth-grade teams are unbeaten at 5-0.
