Effingham St. Anthony and Taylorville split victories in girls junior high basketball action Monday evening.

 

Taylorville won the seventh-grade contest, 27-23, with a 10-2 opening quarter lead.

The Bullpups were led by Schultz with eight points.

In the eighth-grade matchup, St. Anthony won 23-20. The Bullpups trailed Taylorville 11-0 after the opening quarter and 17-5 at halftime. St. Anthony then came roaring back in the second half with a 12-3 run to pull out the victory.

Budde led the way with nine points for the Bullpups.

At Pana

Pana Sacred Heart hosted Effingham and sent the Mustangs home with two defeats Monday evening.

In the seventh-grade contest, Pana won 30-15. The winners had a 4-0 opening quarter ead and led 14-8 at halftime.

Effingham was led in scoring by Bailey Cloie and Rhylee Holland with four points each.

In the eighth-grade matchup, Pana Sacred Heart ripped out to a 13-3 opening quarter lead and went on for a 53-16 win.

The Mustangs were led by April Martin with eight points.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Sigel St. Michael split victories in Monday evening action.

WSS edged St. Michael 18-17 in the seventh-grade C game. The Sharpshooters edged ahead 4-2 but WSS came back with an 8-3 second period run.

Emma Pruemer and Eliza Pruemer led the winners with six points each.

St. Michael was led by Andrews with five points.

In the seventh-grade B game, St. Michael was a 38-15 winner. The Sharpshooters took a 14-2 opening half lead then had a 14-4 third quarter run.

B. Niebrugge led the victory for St. Michael with 26 points.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Izzy Manhart, Jeslyn Kemper and Melina Macklin with four points each.

At Dieterich

Dieterich was a big winner in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Monday evening.

Dieterich won the seventh-grade contest, 47-8 over Oblong. Emery Bill led the way with 11 points while Emma Williams added seven. Leading rebounder was Ava Benefiel with six.

In the eighth-grade contest, Dieterich won 48-6 behind the 20-point game by Claire Faller. Also in double figures was Lexie Funneman with 11. Funneman also led in rebounds with 11.

At Mattoon

Teutopolis put together two victories over Mattoon Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes edged Mattoon in the seventh-grade contest, 24-21. The two teams were tied at 10-10 at halftime before the Shoes moved ahead 16-13 in the third period and then played even with Mattoon in the final quarter.

Dennis and Meyer had eight points each for the Shoes who improve to 3-0.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town ripped out to a 10-1 opening quarter lead and went on for a 44-12 victory.

Drees scored 14 and Martin nine for T-town who also improved to 3-0.

At Beecher City

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split victories with Nokomis in action Monday evening.

CHBC improved to 6-2 on the season with a 27-18 win in the seventh-grade contest.

Elaina Thompson was the lone CHBC player in double figures with 11. Reese Vaughn chipped in with seven.

In the eighth-grade game, Nokomis claimed a 15-12 victory. Nokomis had a 19-6 halftime lead but was held scoreless in the third quarter but came back for a 15-2 final period.

Vaughn, Sophie Zumbahlen and Thompson scored four points each for CHBC.
