Bob Schlechte Referees At Class 2A State Boys Basketball Tourney

Bob Schlechte, from Strasburg, headed to the Class 2A State Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday to referee.

He will be officiating games and called the Class 2A semifinal game between Benton and Byron at the State Farm Center in Champaign.

Benton defeated Byron, 50-42. In the opening contest, Chicago Phillips was a 60-56 winner over Williamsville..

The third place contest went to Byron over Williamsville, 62-48.

The championship will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. featuring Chicago Phillips and Benton.

The Class 1A State Tournament also was contested.

Mounds Meridian downed Chicago Hope Academy, 68-60 while Winchester beat Aurora Christian, 70-65.

Chicago Hope then edged Aurora Christian, 44-43 for third place.

The championship is scheduled Saturday at 11 a.m. between Mounds Meridian and Winchester.

The Class 3A and Class 4A semifinals are scheduled today at the State Farm Center.

Chicago Mount Carmel faces Mount Zion at 9:30 a.m. followed by Chicago DePaul College Prep against Peoria Richwoods at 11:15 a.m.

The third place game is today at 6:30 p.m. with the championship Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

In Class 4A, Palatine meets Normal Community at 2 p.m. followed by Homewood-Flossmoor against Winnetka New Trier at 3:45 p.m.

The third place game is today at 8:15 p.m. while the championship is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
