T-town, Newton To Meet For Regional Crown

NEWTON -- Teutopolis and Newton both captured victories at the Class 2A Newton Boys Basketball Regional and will now meet for the championship.

In the opening game Wednesday evening, T-town handed Marshall a 59-37 loss.

The Wooden Shoes settled this contest early with a 22-7 opening quarter run. Garrett Gaddis nailed three from beyond the arc and two regular baskets for 13 of his team's points while Mitch Koester connected on three trifectas for nine. Alex Kremer put in the other four.

T-town held a 33-17 halftime lead and had a 15-10 third period edge as Joey Niebrugge took over scoring with two baskets and two of two at the line for six points while Koester hit another three-pointer and Zac Niebrugge and Drew Hoene also nailed three-pointers each.

Koester led the way in scoring with 15 points for the Shoes with five three-pointers. Gaddis chipped in with 11 while Kremer and Joey Niebrugge had eight each.

In the second game of the evening, Newton's Parker Wolf had an outstanding scoring contest, finishing with 41 points. He connected on 16 field goals, two from three-point range, and was seven of eight at the line as the Eagles downed Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine, 91-59.

The Eagles took a 27-18 opening quarter lead and led 43-36 at halftime. Newton then had a 48-23 second half run.

Also in double figures were Dylan Gier with eight field goals and one free throw for 17 points and Caden Nichols with 13.

Newton advanced with a 21-10 record and will now face Teutopolis at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship. The winner advances to the Shelbyville Sectional.

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Robinson handed Lawrenceville a 52-37 loss in the first game Wednesday evening at the Vandalia Regional.

Flora won the second contest over Fairfield, 59-43.

Robinson and Flora meet at 6 p.m. Friday for the regional championship and the right to advance to the Shelbyville Sectional.

 

Class 2A St. Joseph-Ogden Regional

St. Joseph-Ogden advanced in its own regional with a 59-25 victory over Sullivan Wednesday evening.

In the other contest, Shelbyville was a 57-56 winnter over Fithian Oakwood.

St. Joseph-Ogden and Shelbyville meet Friday at 7 p.m. for the championship and the right to advance to the Shelbyville Sectional.

 

Class 2A Monticello Regional

Tolono Unity was a winner in the first game of the evening at the Monticello Regional.

Tolono Unity defeated host Monticello, 57-41.

In the second contest, Warrensburg-Latham downed Mahomet-Seymour, 67-50.

Tolono Unity and Warrensburg-Latham meet for the regional championship Friday at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the Shelbyville Sectional.
