Wooden Shoes Head To Girls Sectional Title Game

NEWTON -- Teutopolis High School moved into the championship game of the Class 2A Newton Girls Basketball Sectional with a 56-48 victory over Maroa-Forysth Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes went on the offense in the opening quarter, outscoring the Trojans 15-7. Anna Probst connected for two three-pointers while Isabelle Zerrusen added two regular baskets for four points.

A. Probst was just warming up from three-point range in the opening period. In the second quarter, she nailed two more for 12 points by halftime. Meanwhile Chloe Probst put in a regular basket, a three-pointer and a free throw, also for six points. Zerrusen added four more points.

Maroa-Forsyth came out in the third quarter with a 24-12 run to pull within 43-40. Maggie Ravenscraft connected on two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight points while Avery Braden and Kalli Kahler scored six each.

But the Shoes remained in control and finished out with a 13-8 final period. A Probst scored seven points while C. Probst chipped in with five.

A. Probst led the way for the Shoes in scoring with 21 points on seven field goals that included five three-pointers and was two of three at the line.

C. Probst tallied 15 on five field goals, one a three-pointer and four of six at the line while Zerrusen scored 12 on five field goals and two of two at the line. The Wooden Shoe improved to 21-11 on the season.

In the second game, Robinson was a 49-24 winner over Paris.

Teutopolis and Robinson will now meet for the sectional championship Thursday at 7 p.m. on a game that can be heard on KJ Country 102.3.
