St. Anthony Lone Area Boys Basketball Team To Come Out Of Bethany Regional

Effingham St. Anthony put together quite a scoring barrage in opening with a 105-27 victory over Ramsey Co-op at the Class 1A Bethany Okaw Valley Boys Basketball Regional Monday evening.

The Bulldogs had four players hit double figures and nine total players score in the game. St. Anthony took a 30-6 opening quarter lead as Brock Fearday connected for 11 points while Collin Westendorf added nine.

Fearday continued on with 12 more points in the second period run as St. Anthony led 53-13 at halftime.

Westendorf took over the scoring duties in the third quarter with 12 on three regular baskets and two three-pointers and St. Anthony held an 83-24 lead.

The Bulldogs finished with a whopping 21 three-pointers in the contest led by B. Fearday with eight while Ryan Schmidt and Will Fearday hadded three each.

The top-ranked Class 1A Bulldogs were led by B. Fearday with 31 points on 10 field goals and three of five at the line.

Also in double figures were Westendorf with 21 on eight field goals, two from beyond the arc, and three of three at the line. Schmidt chipped in with 15 while W. Fearday added 11.

In the second game at Nokomis, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell to the host squad, 64-34.

Nokomis took a 16-7 opening quarter lead and led 33-15 at halftime. Nokomis then had a 23-12 third quarter.

Jackson Gurgel was the lone Windsor/Stew-Stras player in double figures with 13, hitting five field goals, three from trifecta range. Nathaniel Gracey added eight.

The Hatchets finished the season with a 13-18 record.

Nokomis advances with a 16-16 mark.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City traveled to Arcola in the third game of the regional and fell 53-41.

The Purple Riders edged out to a 15-9 opening quarter lead and led by that same six-point margin after the second quarter, 24-18.

Arcola then had a 29-23 second half for the 12-point winning margin.

The Bobcats were led by AJ Radloff with 13 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer. Clayton Wojcik and Wyatt Rueff tallied nine points each.

CHBC finished the season with a 15-17 overall record, 4-1 in the Egyptian Illini Conference to share the championship with St. Elmo/Brownstown, and were 4-4 in the National Trail Conference, tying for fourth place.

In the fourth game at Bethany, Bethany Okaw Valley downed Moweaqua Central A&M, 63-31.

St. Anthony will now face Nokomis at 6 p.m. Wednesday followed by Arcola against Bethany Okaw Valley at 7:30. The winners of those two games meet for the championship Friday at 7 p.m.
