CHBC, Altamont, South Central Nab Boys Basketball Victories

BEECHER CITY -- The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City High School boys basketball team celebrated Senior Night in style Saturday with a 64-58 victory over National Trail Conference opponent St. Elmo/Brownstown.

The two teams played to a 12-12 opening quarter tie. Clayton Wojcik got CHBC on the scoreboard with seven points while Wyatt Rueff connected on a three-pointer.

Meanwhile Adam Atwood got the Eagles off on the right track with two baskets and four of five at the line for eight of his team's 12 points.

It was an exciting second quarter, also, with the two teams scoring 13 each for a 25-25 halftime tie. Wojcik again led the way with six points while Carson Evans added five points.

Atwood tallied six more points for St. Elmo/Brownstown while Josiah Maxey added four points.

The Bobcats then edged ahead 38-36 with a 13-11 third quarter run. Kaidyn Calame knocked in two three-pointers and two free throws for eight in the quarter.

Atwood again led the Eagles with six points.

CHBC then continued on with the momentum in the final quarter, putting in 26 points for the six-point victory. Atwood nailed two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight while J. Maxey hit two three-pointers.

The Bobcats were led by Wojcik with 27 points on 10 field goals, two from beyond the arc, and five of eight at the line. AJ Radloff also finished in double digits with 10, eight from the free throw line as the Bobcats hit 22 of 32 free throws.

Atwood finished with 28 points for SEB. He connected on nine field goals, two of those three-pointers and was eight of 11 at the line. Also in double figures was J. Maxey with 14. Atwood led in rebounds with five. J. Maxey had three steals and three assists. The Eagles finished with 13 of 19 from the free throw line. St. Elmo/Brownstown is 21-9 overall on the season.

The two teams tied for the Egyptian-Illini Conference championship with 4-1 records.

At Altamont

Altamont ran out to a 23-15 opening quarter lead and went on for a 73-45 victory over National Trail Conference opponent Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Saturday evening during Senior Night festivities.

The Indians stepped out to a 23-15 opening quarter lead on WSS. Alec Jahraus and Kaidyn Miller provided the one-two scoring punch for the Indians with nine points each. Jahraus hit three regular baskets and a three-pointer, while Miller connected on a regular basket, a three-pointer and four of four at the line.

Connor Manhart led the way for the Hatchets with eight of his team's 15 points while Nathaniel Gracey added five.

WSS came back with a slight 13-10 second period lead to pull within 33-28 at halftime. Jackson Gurgel took over the scoring duties with six points while Aiden Sayers connected on a three-pointer.

But Altamont came roaring out of the lockerroom at halftime to go on a 26-11 third quarter run to lead by 20 going into the final quarter.

Miller hit for 10 points while Kade Milleville added eight.

The Indians then had a 14-6 final quarter. Jahraus put in two more three-pointers.

Three players hit double figures for Altamont. Miller led the way with 22 points on eight field goals, one from three-point range, and five of seven at the line. Jahraus tallied 17 while Milleville chipped in with 12. The Indians hit 10 of 18 from the free throw line. The Indians are 19-8 overall and 7-1 in the National Trail Conference.

Menhart led the way for the Hatchets with 19 points on six field goals, five of those from three-point range, and two of two at the line. Gurgel ended with 14 points.

Windsor/Stew-Stras is 13-17 overall and 2-6 in the National Trail Conference.

At Farina

South Central trailed North Clay (Louisville) after the first quarter but after that the Cougars went on a roll to capture a 67-43 National Trail Conference victory Saturday.

The Cardinals edged out to a 14-13 lead as Ethan Kuenstler put in eight points on a regular basket and two three-pointers. Mason Byers scored the other six points on two regular baskets and two of two at the line.

Westin Neilson and Jacob Smith scored five points each for the Cougars.

South Central then went on an 18-7 second quarter run to lead 31-21 at halftime. Max Magnus led the way for the Cougars with two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight while Seth Bergmann added four.

The Cougars continued on with a slight 15-13 third quarter as Neilson added six more points.

The Cougars then finished out strong with a 21-9 final quarter. Magnus hit three baskets and was four of four at the ilne  for 11 of his team's points.

Magnus led three players in double figures for South Central with 24 points on eight field goals, half of those from beyond the arc, and four of four at the line. Neilson added 16 points and Bergmann 11.

North Clay (12-17, 2-6) was led by Kuenstler with 17 points on six field goals, half of those three-pointers, and two of two at the line. M. Byers added 13.

At Farina
