Effingham St. Anthony captured its own Class 1A Regional championship Thursday evening.

Two National Trail Conference teams clashed in the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Girls Basketball Regional Thursday evening.

St. Anthony came out the winner in a close 50-43 decision over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

"We played a really good Windsor/Stew-Stras team tonight," said St. Anthony Coach Aaron Rios. "We won our third regional in the last three years."

The Bulldogs moved into an 18-11 opening quarter lead as Stacie Vonderheide scored seven points and Addi Nuxoll five.

Kendra Hayes kept the Hatchets close with five points and Ella Kinkelaar hit a three-pointer.

The Bullodgs moved into a 29-18 halftime lead. Nancy Ruholl went on a seven point run for the Bulldogs.

St. Anthony then had a slight 10-9 third quarter edge to lead 39-27 going into the final quarter. Ruholl went on a six-point run and Vonderheide added the other four points.

Windsor/Stew-Stras then came back with a 16-11 final period tally. Ellie Wittenberg scored five points and K. Hayes and  Kinkelaar hit a three-pointer each. But the Bulldogs held on for the victory

Ruholl led the way for St. Anthony with 20 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Vonderheide finished with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

"Addi Nuxoll had a big game tonight with a double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. She also had two steals," said Coach Rios. "Freshman Addie Lauritzen scored three points and had 10 rebounds. She did a great job of cleaning up the glass."

St. Anthony advances to the Moweaqua  Central A&M Sectional Tuesday to meet either Caitlin Salt Fork or  Arcola at 6 p.m. Those two teams play tonight. If the Bulldogs win that game, they advance to the championship game Thursday at 6 p.m. and could meet another National Trail Conference team, Altamont. The Indians won the Dieterich Regional Thursday evening.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was led by Wittenberg and Kinkelaar with 12 points each. Wittenberg connected on four field goals, one a three-pointer and was three of five at the line while Kinkelaar hit five field goals, two from three-point land, and four of five at the line Also in double figures was K. Hayes with 10.

The Hatchets finished the season with a 20-14 record.

Altamont captured the championship of the Class 1A Dieterich Regional.

Class 1A Dieterich Regional

Altamont ripped out to a 15-9 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 52-44 victory over Decatur St. Teresa Thursday.

Grace Nelson was a force St. Teresa couldn't stop. Nelson went on an 11-point opening quarter run as the Indians held a 15-9 lead. Although scoring slowed down, St. Teresa had a slight 9-7 second period to trail 22-18 at halftime.

In the third quarter, St. Teresa went on an 18-12 run to pull into a 36-34 lead going into the final quarter. Lucy Corley went on a tear, scoring three baskets and four of four at the line for 10 points.

But the Indians came roaring back behind Nelson's scoring. She connected on five baskets and was eight of nine at the line, scoring all 18 of her team's points.

Nelson finished with a whopping 40 points on 13 field goals, one a three-pointer, and 13 of 14 at the line.

Leading Decatur St. Teresa was Corley with six field goals and six of six at the line for 18 points while Jolie Eller added 12.

Altamont advances to the Moweaqua Central A&M Sectional and will face Tuscola at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Tuscola downed Hume Shiloh, 49-41 to win the Bethany Okaw Valley Regional championship.

If Altamont and St. Anthony win Tuesday evening, they will meet each other for the sectional championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

Teutopolis captured the championship of the Class 2A Lawrenceville Regional Thursday.

Class 2A Lawrenceville Regional

Teutopolis trailed Mount Carmel 12-4 after the opening quarter but the Wooden Shoes came back like a whirlwind in the second period and held off the Golden Aces for a 43-40 victory to win the Lawrenceville Regional championship.

Coach Laurie Thompson's crew had a slow start as Mount Carmel's Randall connected for half of her team's opening quarter points. Chloe Probst and Mollie Ruholl provided the four first quarter points on a basket and two free throws.

But the Shoes got unwound with a 23-14 second quarter run. Summer Wall hit two three-pointers while M. Ruholl and C. Probst connected on a two-pointer and a three-pointer each for five points. A. Probst added a three-pointer. That put the Shoes into a one-point lead at halftime, 27-26.

Both teams played to a 10-10 third quarter and T-town held a 37-36 lead.

The Shoes then put together a 6-4 final period for the three-point winning margin. M. Ruholl knocked down a three-pointer and was two of two at the line while Isabella Zerrusen put in a free throw.

The Shoes were led by C. Probst and M. Ruholl with 10 points each. C. Probst connected on five field goals, two of those from beyond the arc, while M. Ruholl hit two three-pointers, a regular basket and two of four at the line. T-town finished with eight three-pointers in the contest.

T-town now advances to the Class 2A Newton Sectional Tuesday where the Shoes will face Maroa-Forsyth, a 52-41 winner over Sullivan at the Sulliaan Regional.

Robinson won the Fairfield Regional by downing Carmi-White County, 39-31 while Paris was a 41-21 winner over Tolono Unity to capture the Monticello Regional. Those two teams meet at 7:30 p.m.Tuesday.

The winners  of Tuesday's games will advance to the sectional championship Thursday at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Regional.

South Central played for the championship of this regional but fell to Okawville by a 68-30 count Thursday.
