Seven Area Teams Competing For Basketball Regional Titles

Seven area high schools will be competing for basketball regional championships tonight and Friday.

In the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Regional, it will be two National Trail Conference teams clashing.

St. Anthony and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will meet at 6 p.m. today for the title and the right to advance to the Moweaqua Central A&M Sectional.

The sectional begins Tuesday with the St. Anthony Regional winner facing the winner of the Chrisman Regional, either Catlin Salt Fork or Arcola at 6 p.m.

The Dieterich Regional winner will also advance to the Moweaqua Central A&M Sectional.

Those two teams at Dieterich include Altamont and Decatur St. Teresa tonight at 6 for the championship.

The winner will meet the winner of the Bethany Okaw Valley Regional, either Tuscola or Hume Shiloh, at 7:30 p.m.

South Central, another National Trail Conference team, will meet Okawville at 7 p.m. today for the championship of the Class 1A Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Regional.

The winner advances to the Nokomis Sectional Tuesday to face either Mount Sterling (Brown County) or Carrollton at 7:30 p.m.

In Class 2A, Teutopolis will square off against Mount Carmel at 7 p.m. for the championship of the Lawrenceville Regional.

The winner then heads to the Newton Sectional Tuesday to take on the Sullivan Regional winner, either Maroa-Forsyth or Sullivan at 6 p.m. The second match will have the winner of the Fairfield Regional, either Robinson or Carmi-White County, and the Monticello Regional champion, either Tolono Unity or Pana at 7:30.

Effingham High School will meet Centralia in the Class 3A Salem Regional championship at 7 p.m. today.

The winner of this regional will head to the Effingham Sectional Tuesday to face the winner of the Waterloo Regional, either Mount Vernon or East St. Louis Senior at 7:30 p.m. In the opening contest, the winner of the Charleston Regional, either Highland or Mattoon, will meet the winner of the Carbondale Regional, either Herrin or Marion, at 6 p.m.

Brownstown/St. Elmo will not compete until Friday evening in the Class 1A Mount Olive Regional.

The Bombers will meet Father McGivney at 6 p.m. The winner then heads to the Nokomis Sectional to meet the winner of the Concord Triopia Regional, either Hardin Calhoun or Concord Triopia at 7:30 p.m.
