SANDOVAL -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City is in the record-setting business this year in high school boys basketball. The Bobcats picked up a 60-51 victory over Sandoval Tuesday evening and set a record for most wins in a season with 14. Not only that but Coach Tanner Thompson became the all-time winningest coach since the Bobcats went to the CHBC co-op.

The Bobcats edged out to a 19-15 opening quarter lead on Sandoval as Gage Lorton went on a run. Lorton connected on two regular baskets and five of seven at the line for nine points while Kaidyn Calame scored on two three-pointers for six.

The lead went to 35-27 at halftime. AJ Radloff scored six points while Carson Evans and Clayton Wojcik connected for five points each.

Wojcik took over in the third quarter with nine of 13 points and CHBC held a 48-39 lead over the Blackhawks.

Both teams then tallied 12 in the final period.

Wojcik led the way with eight field goals, two from three-point land, and one of five at the line for 19. Also in double figures were Lorton with 15 and Radloff with 12.

Sandoval was a winner in the junior varsity game, 30-27.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis held only a 23-22 halftime lead but came out after halftime to go on a 20-3 third quarter run to down Mattoon, 56-44 Tuesday evening.

Garrett Gaddis went on a scoring run for the Shoes. Gaddis hit 10 field goals, four from three-point range, and was five of six at the line for 29 points.

Joey Niebrugge chipped in with eight points for the Shoes. Niebrugge led in rebounds with seven. Zac Niebrugge contributed six rebounds and had four assists. Mitch Koester also had four assists.

T-town claimed the junior varsity game, 67-54. The Shoes were led by Landyn Thoele with 16 points and Drew Hoene with 13. Jake Bushur had 11 rebounds and Gavin  Addis five assists.

At Dieterich

Dieterich handed Woodlawn a 65-50 loss in boys basketball action Tuesday evening.

Caleb Gephart got the Movin' Maroons off to a good start, scoring 11 of the team's 18 opening quarter points. Gephart connected on three from beyond the arc and a regular basket. Lucas Westendorf added five as he hit a three-pointer and regular basket.

Dieterich then pushed its lead to 37-19 at halftime with a 19-5 second period run. Westendorf took over the scoring duties with three regular baskets and a three-pointer for nine while Gephart added a three-pointer and was two of two at the line.

Both teams tallied 10 points in the third quarter and Woodlawn came back with a 21-18 final quarter run but Landen Keck put in two baskets and was five of five at the line for nine points in the final period.

Gephart finished with 24 points on seven field goals, three of those trifectas, and four of four at the line. Westendorf and Keck both added 14 points.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown got double point performances from three players in a 74-53 victory over Ramsey Tuesday evening.

Adam Atwood led the way for the Eagles with 25 points on 10 of 13 from the field that included three of five from three-point range, and two of four at the line. He also pulled down 10 rebounds, nine off the defensive board. He finished with three steals.

Brody Mason tallied 18 points on six of 10 from the field and four of five at the three-point line. He hit two free throws. Mason also had three steals and two blocked shots.

Cade Schaub chipped in with 12 points, had eight rebounds and two blocks.

The Eagles edged out to a 19-14 opening quarter lead then blew the game open with a 23-9 second period.

St. Elmo/Brownstown improved to 4-0 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference and 21-8 overall. The Eagles are back in action Friday at Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

At Hutsonville

South Central came through in the second half to pull out a 34-31 victory over Hutsonville/Palestine/Oblong Tuesday evening.

South Central took a 10-5 opening quarter lead behind Kage Hiestand's four points and three-pointers from Westin Neilson and Max Magnus.

But H/P/O came back with a 10-2 second quarter run to move into a 15-12 halftime lead.

The Cougars got back on track with a 12-4 third period as Neilson added two more three-pointers and Jacob Smith added four.

Although H/P/O came back with a 12-10 final quarter, the Cougars held on for the three-point victory.

Magnus led the way with 12 points on three field goals, one a three-pointer, and five of eight at the line. Neilson finished with nine on three trifectas.

Cumberland outscored Villa Grove through three quarters and claimed a 65-56 victory Tuesday evening.

The Pirates trailed Villa Grove 12-11 after the opening quarter but came back with a 15-9 second period run to lead 26-21 at halftime. Zack Harmon connected for six points in the quarter while Reed Miller added five.

Cumberland then had a 20-19 third quarter edge to lead 46-40. Harmon connected on four baskets for eight in the quarter while Blake McMechan and Cameron Roedl hit a three-pointer each.

Three players scored in double digits for the Pirates. Harmon led the way with nine field goals and two of three from the free throw line for 20 points. Roedl added 16 and Miller had 10. The Pirates connected on 12 of 19 free throws.

Newton trailed Casey-Westfield 26-25 at halftime then had a 15-7 third quarter run and went on for a 62-49 victory Tuesday evening.

The Eagles held a 14-11 opening quarter lead but the Warriors came back with a 15-11 run to lead at halftime.

Four players connected in double figures for Newton. Parker Wolf led the way with 19 points on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of five at the line. Caden Nichols added 15 points, Dylan Gier 13 and Jacob Weber 10.

Newton moves to 20-10 on the season and 6-1 in the Little Illini Conference. The Eagles are back in action Friday hosting Flora.
