GIRLS
Effingham 38, Mt. Zion 29 (Thursday's win earned the Lady Hearts second place in the always-tough Apollo Conference at 7-3. Effingham led 13-5 after one quarter and 23-15 at the half. Effingham was up 29-22 after three quarters and outscored the Lady Braves 9-7 in the fourth quarter to post the nine-point win. Averie Wolfe led Effingham with 13 points. Also for EHS: Sidney Donaldson 7, Alyssa Martin 6, Saige Althoff 5, Bria Beals 4 and Bella Austin 3. Effingham closed out the regular season with a 26-4 record. Jeff Schafer's crew will begin postseason play in the 3A Regional at Salem at 6pm Monday against the winner of Saturday's Troy Triad/Salem game. Effingham won the JV game 45-17 to finish the JV season with a 19-3 record. Newton 59, St. Anthony 50 (Bulldogs Coach Aaron Rios termed it a historic night, despite the loss, since Nancy Ruholl scored her 1,000th point. Ruholl is the first Lady Bulldog to reach 1,000 career points as a sophomore. Ruholl and Stacie Vonderheide shared game scoring honors for St. Anthony with 20 points apiece. Also for the Lady Bulldogs: Adyson Rios 6, Addi Nuxoll 4. St. Anthony finishes the regular season with a 22-8 record, and will begin postseason play at their own regional Monday at 6pm, taking on the winner of Saturday's CHBC/Decatur Christian Unity game. For Newton: C. Martin 18, Barthelemy 14, K. Martin 13, Kessler 7, Bennett 5, Meinhart 2. Newton ends the regular season with a 19-10 record. Windsor/Stew-Stras 30, Casey-Westfield 27 (an interesting game, as WSS held a 15-8 lead after one quarter, there was a 2-2 second quarter, then CW outscored the Lady Hatchets 15-4 in the third quarter to take a 25-21 lead, then WSS outscored the Lady Warriors 9-2 in the final quarter to win by three; Samantha Hayes led WSS with 11 points; also for the Lady Hatchets: Ella Kinkelaar 6, K. Hayes 5, Wittenberg 4, Mathis 3 and VonBehrens 1; WSS ends the regular season at 18-13 and begins postseason play Saturday at the St. Anthony Regional taking on Argenta-Oreana after the 1pm Decatur Unity Christian/CHBC game)
Paris 52, Altamont 42 (Altamont led 11-6 after one quarter, but Paris outscored the Lady Indians 22-8 in the second quarter to lead 28-19 at halftime and won the game by 10 after a pretty even second half; Grace Nelson led Altamont with 20 points. Also for the Lady Indians: Claire Boehm 8, Peyton Osteen 5, Brianna Grunloh 3, Kaylee Lurkins 3, Skylie Klein 2, and Kylie Osteen 1; Paris won the JV game 53-39; Altamont begins postseason play Monday at 6pm at the Dieterich Regional against the winner of Saturday's Cerro Gordo/Bement vs. Neoga game)
Arcola 59, Neoga 53 (it was a pretty even game in the first half with Arcola leading 23-20 at intermission, but Arcola outscored Neoga 21-10 in the third quarter before Neoga roared back to outscore the Lady Riders 23-15 to pull within six at the end; for Neoga: Brynn Richards 22, Haylee Campbell 12, Atalie Osborn 6, Gracie Eaton 5, Allison Sampson 5, and Natalie O'Dell 3; Neoga wrapped up the regular season with a 16-14 record and will take on Cerro Gordo/Bement at the Dieterich Regional on Saturday at 6pm)
CHBC 54, Ramsey 32 (a 23-point first quarter led the Lady Bobcats to a 22-point win; for CHBC: Ruby Stuckemeyer 13, Macee Rodman 11, Haley Doty 7, Koda Coleman 6, Baya Fingo 5, Karlee Smith 4, Ines Saez Ferrer 3, Ellie Miller 3, Marissa Summers 2; CHBC won the JV game 27-13 to finish the season 16-5. The CHBC varsity ends the regular season with a 17-13 mark and will begin play at the St. Anthony Regional Saturday at 1pm against Decatur Unity Christian)
Sandoval 59, South Central 46 (Taegan Webster scored 19 for the Lady Cougars and sits just 38 points shy of Abbi Hahn's all-time girls scoring record at South Central; the Lady Cougars begin postseason play on Tuesday at 7pm against Christ Our Rock Lutheran in Centralia)
