Girls Basketball Teams Open Regional Play Saturday

Area Class 1A teams will be competing at the Effingham St. Anthony, Dieterich, Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran and Mount Olive regionals.

St. Anthony, seeded No. 1, will be playing host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg from the National Trail Conference along with Decatur Unity Christian, Argenta-Oreana and Moweaqua Central A&M.

Competing at the Dieterich Regional will be the host Maroons along with Neoga and Altamont. Other members of the field include Cerro Gordo-Bement, Red Hill (Bridgeport) and Decatur St. Teresa.

North Clay (Louisville) and South Central will be playing at the Centralia Christ Our Rock Regional along with the host squad, Sandoval, Ramsey and Okawville.

Brownstown/St. Elmo, the third seed, will be competing at Mount Olive along with Bunker Hill, Dupo, Mount Olive, Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran, Maryville Christian and Glen Carbon Father McGivney.

Teutopolis, Cumberland and Newton will be competing in Class 2A regionals.

Cumberland and T-town will take part at the Lawrenceville Regional along with the host squad, Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville, Marshall and Mount Carmel.

Newton will travel to the Fairfield Regional along with Flora, Fairfield, McLeansboro Hamilton County, Robinson and CarmiWhite County.

Effingham is the lone area team in a Class 3A Regional. The Hearts will travel to Salem but won't compete until Monday as the No. 2 seed. Also entered in this regional are host Salem, Troy Triad, Bethalto Civic Memorial and Centralia. If Effingham wins this regional, they will be playing at their own sectional.
