Wooden Shoes Win Over Casey-Westfield

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School ran out to an 11-0 lead on Casey-Westfield Tuesday evening but the Warriors went to a zone defensively and pulled within 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. That kicked off the start of the boys basketball contest at J.H. Griffth Gym heard on 979XFM.

The Wooden Shoes held a 25-18 halftime lead then pushed into high gear with a 22-12 third period and finished with a 55-45 victory.

Six players scored for the Shoes in that opening quarter. Mitch Koester and Gavin Addis connected on a three-pointer each. 

Casey-Westfield kept close as Connor Sullivan hit a three-pointer and Grant Cochonour added an old-fashioned three-point play.

T-town had an 11-8 second period to lead 25-18 at halftime. Koester put in another three-pointer and Tyler Pruemer scored four.

Then came the big-scoring third quarter as the Shoes hit nine of 12 for 75% shooting. Joey Niebrugge connected on a three-pointer and regular basket for five while Zac Niebrugge and Logan Lawson hit a three-pointer each. Garrett Gaddis nailed two baskets and a free throw for five.

T-town held a 47-30 lead going into the final quarter and had led by 19.

Then the bottom fell out for the Shoes as they couldn't find the range, missing all seven shots in that final period but hung on with eight free throws.

Gaddis finished with 11 points for the Shoes with three field goals and five of eight at the free throw line. J. Niebrugge chipped in with 10 points and led in rebounds with 11. Koester led in assists with five.The Shoes finished with six three-pointers led by Koester with two

The Wooden Shoes are now 17-9 on the season.

Ryan Richards led Casey-Westfield with 21 points on eight of 16 from the field and two of two at the free throw line. The Warriors dropped to 14-11 on the season.

In the junior vasrity contest, Teutopolis was a 55-51 winner. Gavin Addids and Drew Hoene scored 13 each for the Shoes. Jake Bushue led in rebounds with 11.
