TUSCOLA -- Effingham St. Anthony ran into a tough Tuscola squad in girls high school basketball competition Monday evening and fell, 63-47.

Tuscola, ranked No. 8 in the Class 1A state poll, ran out to a 19-7 opening quarter lead behind eight points from Taylor Gordon and seven from Lia Patterson.

The Bulldogs struggled in the opening period with only four points from Addi Nuxoll and a three-pointer from Nancy Ruholl.

Tuscola continued on with a 13-8 second quarter to lead 32-15 at halftime. ZoeyThomason hit two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight in the quarter.

Stacie Vonderheide tallied four in the second period for the Bulldogs.

St. Anthony didn't get unwound until the third quarter when they had a 17-13 run. Ruholl scored six points while Vonderheide added five and Nuxoll and Adyson Rios three each.

But the Warriors came back with an 18-15 final quarter as Sicily Moss scored seven on a basket and five of eight at the line.

Ruholl led the way for the Bulldogs with 21 points on seven field goals, three from beyond the arc, and four of five at the line. Vonderheide tallied 12.

"We struggled tonight from the floor," said St. Anthony Coach Aaron Rios. "We shot 25% fron the floor and only scored 15 points in the first half."

The Bulldogs, ranked sixth in the Class 1A state poll, dropped to 22-7 on the season. They will finish regular season play Thursday at Newton before heading into regional action Monday.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis ran out to a big first quarter lead and handed Neoga a 62-32 loss Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes' Chloe Probst put in two three-pointers and was two of two at the line for eight points while Kelsey Niemerg scored six.

Neoga's Taylor Campbell tallied five points in the second quarter as the Indians could only put together seven as T-town moved into a 34-15 halftime lead.

T-town came back out in the third quarter with a 23-11 run as Malea Helmink scored six points and Mollie Ruholl, C. Probst and Anna Probst five each.

C. Probst led the way for the Shoes with 20 points on six field goals, half of those from three-point range, and five of five at the line. M. Ruholl finished with nine while K. Niemerg and Helmink had eight each.

Helmink led in rebounds with four while M. Ruholl had three steals. C. Probst had one assist.

Neoga was led by Haylee Campbell with five field goals, one a three-pointer, and was one of three at the line for 12 points. Brynn Richards finished with 10. The Indians dropped to 16-13 on the season and will host Arcola Thursday with Senior Night and Pinkout Night

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City moved into a 34-15 halftime lead and that was the game in a 61-27 win over Meridian Monday evening.

The Bobcats's Ruby Stuckemeyer went on an opening quarter run with 10 of the team's 19 points. Macee Rodman added seven.

Rodman hit a second three-pointer while Haley Doty had a three-pointer and free throw and Stuckemeyer four more points in the second quarter.

Rodman went on an eight point run in the third quarter as did Doty with two three-pointers and a regular basket. CHBC had a 24-10 surge.

Stuckemeyer and Rodman finished with 18 points each for the winners. Stuckemeyer hit six field goals and was a perfect six of six at the line while Rodman hit eight field goals, two of those trifectas. The Bobcats improved to 16-3 on the season.

CHBC was a 54-11 winner in the junior varsity contest.  Doty led the way with 21 points and Laney Nohren had 10. CHBC is now 15-5 on the season.

The Bobcats will play host to Ramsey Thursday during Senior NIght festivities.

At Bluford

Brownstown/St. Elmo edged out to a 9-7 opening quarter lead then went on a big scoring run in the second to put the game away with a 57-22 victory over Webber Township (Bluford) Monday evening.

The Bombers held a 28-12 halftime lead as Lexi Seabaugh scored eight in the opening quarter while Dayana Haslett went on a nine point run in the second period.

BSE then had a 19-5 third period run as six players scored.

Day. Haslett led the way with 13 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line while Seabaugh added 12 on five field goals and two of two at the line. Ten Bombers scored in the contest.

At Newton

The Eagles continue to roll along and tallied a 72-30 victory over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville during Senior Night festivities Monday evening.

Camryn Martin scored 24 for the winners on 10 field goals, three of those from outside the arc, and one of two at the line. She set the single season scoring record this year with 459 points after last night. Karasyn Martin added 16 while Lilly Kessler tallied 15. The Eagles finished with seven three-pointers.

"I am so proud of what Elley, Lilly, Macy and Emma have accomplished throughout their basketball careers," said Newton Coach Brad Harris. "They have been a positive influence on the program leading to a winning season. Elley has been an integral part of our success. She has been leading the team as the point guard since her sophomore year.

"Lilly has improved a lot throughout her years here. Her consistent rebounding and steady scoring has been a foundation to our success.

"Macy has shown consistent improvement each year. Her solid defense and key three-point shooting add another dimension to the team.

"Emma has continued to get better each year. She has found her role on the team as being an inside presence and a solid rebounder.

"I am proud of Camryn's hard work and dedication she has put into bsaketball," said Harris."She has continued to work on ways to score and help the team win."

The Eagles aso won the junior varsity game, 33-8. Claire Probst led Newton with 10 points. The team is now 15-2 on the season.

At Glen Carbon

This was a close contest from the get-go as Altamont trailed 11-9 after the opening quarter and 24-22 at halftime. And that's the point spread as Glen Carbon Father McGivney edged Altamont, 57-55 Monday evening.

The Indians stood within 24-22 at halftime behind Grace Nelson's 10 first half points. Mia Lieberman led the way for Father McGivney with 11 in the second quarter and 15 by halftime.

Nelson started to connect with 10 in the third quarter and finished strong with 14 in the final period.

But Father McGivney had Emily Johnson take over the scoring duties in the third quarter. After hitting only one basket in the first period, Johnson connected on three baskets and four of six at the line for 10

In the final period, Father Givney hit only two baskets but was 10 of 14 at the line for the win.

Nelson finished with all 14 of Altamont's points in the final quarter and tallied 34 in the loss. She hit 13 field goals and was eight of 11 at the free throw line. Boehm scored eight.

Father McGivney won the junior varsity game 51-36.

Cumberland trounced Villa Grove by a 63-12 count in Monday evening competition.

The Pirates ran out to a 25-4 opening quarter lead as Jadalyn Sowers put in three trifectas for nine points while Kaelyn Shoemaker hit two three-pointers and a free throw for seven and Alysa Dittamore put in six points.

K. Shoemaker tallied five in the second period 11-3 run to lead 36-7 at halftime.

A. Dittamore finished with 20 points to lead the Pirates. She hit nine field goals and two of eight at the line. K. Shoemaker and Sowers scored 14 points each.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took the early lead but couldn't hold on in a 54-49 loss to Shelbyville Monday evening.

The Hatchets led 16-8 after the opening quarter and 27-25 at halftime. But the Rams came back with a 14-12 third period and had a 15-10 final quarter.

Ella Kinkelaar led the Hatchets with 20 points on seven field goals, two of those three-pointers, and was four of four at the line. Samantha Hayes tallied 15 points on eight field goals, one a three-poimter and three of four at the line.
