North Clay Wins, Effingham, Altamont, S.C. Drop Losses In Boys Basketball

PATOKA -- North Clay (Louisville) claimed a high school boys basketball victory Saturday.

The Cardinals defeated Patoka, 78-61. The win gives North Clay a 10-15 overall record.

North Clay also claimed the junior varsity contest, 56-47.

North Clay will be back in action Tuesday against Grayville. This game will serve as Senior Night. The senior recognition ceremony will start art 6:30 p.m.

 

At Effingham

Effingham hosted Mahomet-Seymour and fell to the visiting squad, 79-46 in Saturday action.

The Hearts played Mahomet-Seymour even in the opening quarter, going 16-16. Rylan Pals knocked in two three-pointers while EHS went eight of 10 at the line.

Mahomet-Seymour edged ahead 29-26 at halftime. Ethan Jones put in five points and KJ Kellams hit a three-pointer.

"That was the best half we have played this year," said EHS Coach Obie Farmer. "The third quarter was a letdown. Mahomet-Seymour only missed one shot in the third quarter."

The Bulldogs went on a 36-12 third quarter run as Jackson Boehm scored 11 points and Miles Woosley 10.

M-S finished with a 14-8 final quarter. Boehm tallied 20 points, Woosley 14, Cade Starrick 12 and Landyn Hannah 10.

Effingham was led by Kellams and Hayden Wendling with nine each. Kellams hit two baskets, one a three-pointer, and was four of four at the line while Wendling hit two baskets and was five of six at the line. The Hearts were 18 of 22 from the free throw line.

At Olney

Lawrenceville handed Altamont a 58-40 loss in boys action Saturday at Olney Central College

Lawrenceville moved into a 16-8 opening quarter lead as Bryant Jenkins scored eight points in the quarter and Maddox Pargin tallied six.

The leading margin stayed the same at halftime, 28-16.

Lawrenceville continued on in the second half with a 30-24 lead.

Kaidyn Miller was the lone Altamont player in double figures with 11 on four field goals and three of four at the line. The Indians dropped to 16-6 on the season.

At Bluford

Webber Township (Bluford) scored a 53-46 victory over South Central Saturday.

South Central edged out to an 11-8 opening quarter lead as Callaway Smith connected on two three-pointers and Kage Hiestand added a three-pointer.

But Webber Township came back with a 19-11 second period run to pull ahead 27-22 at halftime.

Webber had a slight 15-14 third quarter edge.

Max Magnus led South Central with a three-pointer and three of five free throws for six and C. Smith added six.

Webber kept the pressure on with an 11-10 final period for the seven-point victory.

South Central was led by Magnus and C. Smtih with 12 points each. Magnus hit three field goals, one a three-pointer and was five of seven at the line while Smith hit five field goals, two of those three-pointers.
